OverviewMechanical Engineer role at British Columbia Rapid Transit Company (BCRTC).ResponsibilitiesAs the asset owner, apply professional engineering expertise to assets and systems in the designated discipline and support safe, reliable and efficient rail transportation service delivery within an integrated, multi-jurisdictional environment.Participate in the development and refinement of asset engineering, management and maintenance strategy. Support the development and implementation of Annual Maintenance Plan, Asset Renewal Plan, Asset Improvement Plan and capital replacement plans.Develop and refine engineering standards, policies and procedures for asset maintenance to align with regulations, codes and industry best practices.Provide innovative engineering advice and guidance to engineering, asset management, asset maintenance and capital projects on quality assurance, compliance assurance and asset performance. Identify asset problems and provide technical solutions. Support investigations of significant failures, perform root cause analysis and present reports/recommendations to Senior Engineer and Principal Engineer. Assist in developing FMEA and FMECA where required.Provide engineering support to capital and non-capital projects of moderate to high risk and complexity. Review and recommend on the approval of technical specifications, drawings and documentation for assigned projects.Participate in the development and refinement of configuration control procedures for asset maintenance. Recommend changes to asset configuration control documentation.Assist in selecting appropriate techniques, procedures and methods to undertake engineering assignments. Investigate and review industry best practices in rail operations and asset maintenance and recommend changes to BCRTC practices. Review existing and emerging technology and recommend applications to SkyTrain systems as appropriate. Support business case development and implementation of best practice and new technology.Develop and maintain professional, trustworthy working relationships with stakeholders in BCRTC and across the enterprise.Supervise reporting staff, including hiring, training and development, coaching, and performance management as required.QualificationsEducation and Experience: Eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee (P.L.Eng.) is required. Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) may be considered. 2 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience. Experience within a transit environment, specifically in Rolling Stock or Rail Infrastructure, is highly desirable.Other Requirements: Solid knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of the designated engineering discipline; knowledge of relevant standards, legislation, acts and regulatory requirements pertaining to the rail industry; working knowledge of railway operation and maintenance practices, including configuration control; advanced analytical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to create technical reports, standards, procedures, specifications, method statements, risk assessments, FMECA, schematics and technical drawings; knowledge of project management and project reporting; strong time management and communication skills to coordinate across multiple stakeholders.Desirable Assets: Good knowledge of HVAC, Fire Protection and Plumbing systems.Equal Employment OpportunitySkyTrain is committed to employment equity and building a diverse workforce.
