Your Opportunity Our hydro team is seeking a colleague who enjoys understanding client needs and matching them with Stantec’s service offerings to fill the role of Intermediate Hydropower Engineer – Structural or Mechanical. The ideal candidate will be a "seller/doer" with experience in the design, construction, and/or operation of dams, spillways, intake structures, water conveyances, and powerhouses, as well as equipment such as gates, valves, turbine‑generator units, and balance of plant. Experience managing people and projects is required. Your Key Responsibilities Strengthen Team Observe and personify safety and quality culture Develop solutions to a variety of diverse engineering problems involving hydropower structures or equipment with high-level guidance Perform field support during installation and construction through monitoring for quality control and consistency with design specifications Prepare written communications regarding design basis, options analyses, schedule, and cost estimating Develop design drawings and technical specifications for construction and installation services Motivate team to work together efficiently and mitigate conflict Assist in resource management processes, recruitment, career development, succession planning, coaching, and mentoring Understand skills, capabilities, and opportunities for collaboration across Stantec’s business lines in Canada and support international collaboration when required Understand project complexity and match with appropriate scope, effort, and staffing Improve Effectiveness Work collaboratively with Project Engineers and Project Managers to assist in planning, design, and preparation of drawings, specifications, and capital cost estimates for engineering projects Communicate with other team members and become familiar with Stantec standards Contribute to the development and execution of the sector business strategy Meet HSSE goals and targets Communicate comfortably across the corporate hierarchy Apply project management principles consistently according to the Stantec 10‑Step process Apply the risk review process appropriately Scale administrative processes to match application size and identify improvement opportunities Grow Business Support local business development pursuits Balance project time with pursuit and positioning of new business opportunities Understand the hydro industry, changing needs, and players Communicate comfortably with clients at all levels, potentially including occasional site travel Know existing clients, their needs, and staff Maintain client relationships aimed at satisfaction and repeat business Recognize where Stantec can add value to clients Promote Brand Know and relate with relevant electrical utilities, industry associations, academic institutions, and training programs Explain Stantec’s differentiators and benefits to clients Your Capabilities and Credentials Engineer with a degree in structural or mechanical engineering from an accredited university; a postgraduate degree in engineering or business is an asset Professional designation (P.Eng.) obtained in at least one Canadian Province Minimum of 10 years’ experience with hydroelectric facilities, preferably within a consulting engineering or utility environment Knowledge of engineering analysis and design software; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Project management experience on small to medium multidisciplinary projects with strong organizational and communication skills Position Details Position flexibility includes working from home and/or office attendance in Dartmouth, NS. Affiliation with other Atlantic offices (Fredericton, NB; Moncton, NB; or St. John’s, NL) is an alternative. Occasional travel to client sites will be required. Pay Transparency In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Final compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus‑eligible. Part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on agreed working hours.
