What You'll Do Epic Games is seeking a Technical Art Director to help define the visual and technical direction for our next‑generation mobile experiences. You’ll bridge art and programming to deliver exceptional visuals that perform seamlessly across a wide range of devices—from high‑end hardware to mid‑tier mobile platforms. You’ll build tools, pipelines, and rendering solutions that empower artists to create beautiful, efficient, and scalable content in Unreal Engine. In this role, you will Lead and mentor a team of technical artists focused on delivering optimized, high‑quality visuals for mobile and cross‑platform experiences; partner with art, design, and programming to balance visual fidelity, performance, and production efficiency. Develop and maintain material, lighting, and rendering workflows that support both mobile and high‑end platforms. Build tools and pipelines that enable efficient iteration and validation across a variety of device profiles. Establish and uphold standards for asset optimization, texture compression, and draw call management. Profile, analyze, and optimize content to ensure consistent performance and scalability. Collaborate with gameplay, animation, and VFX teams to ensure visuals support gameplay readability and responsiveness. Contribute to defining technical art best practices that scale across multiple projects and visual targets. What we're looking for Proven experience leading or directing technical art for real‑time projects across mobile or multi‑platform pipelines Deep understanding of Unreal Engine’s rendering pipeline, materials, and profiling tools Strong technical foundation in shaders, lighting, performance optimization, and asset validation Experience with both lightweight and advanced rendering techniques (e.g., dynamic lighting, post‑processing, material layering, and virtualized geometry) Ability to develop tools and workflows that scale from stylized to realistic visual goals Familiarity with mobile GPU Frameworks, memory constraints, and cross‑platform performance considerations Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines Ability to mentor and grow technical art teams, fostering both creative and technical excellence Experience with next‑gen rendering features in Unreal Engine 5 (Lumen, Nanite, virtual shadow maps) and strategies for scaling them across hardware tiers EPIC JOB + EPIC BENEFITS = EPIC LIFE We pay 100% for benefits for both employees and dependents and offer coverage for supplemental medical, dental, vision, critical illness, telemedicine, Life and AD&D, long‑term disability insurance as well as weekly indemnity (short term disability) and a retirement savings plan with a competitive employer match.
