Regina, Canada The Globe Theatre Full time

The Globe Theatre recognizes the unique and enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous people and their traditional territories. We acknowledge that we are on the historic homeland of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Nakoda, Lakota, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation on Treaty 4 Territory.

From a small troupe touring Saskatchewan in 1966 to Canada’s only professional theatre in the round, The Globe is a true pioneer and innovator in the landscape of Canadian theatre. As the largest performing arts organization in Saskatchewan—with an annual budget of approximately $5 million—The Globe engages more than 100 artists per annum across half-a-dozen MainStage shows and sells 55,000 to 70,000 tickets each season. Alongside its MainStage performances, The Globe Theatre offers a variety of additional programming, including its Sandbox Theatre series, play readings, new work development, digital programming, as well as a year-round multi-disciplinary theatre school. The theatre is gearing up for a grand reopening of its downtown location following an extensive and transformative interior renovation of the historic Prince Edward Building. Now rebranded as The Globe Theatre at MacCorquodale Place, this revitalized venue promises to be a revered cultural destination.

Amidst this vibrant and transformational period, The Globe Theatre invites nominations and applications for the role of Executive Director (ED). This pivotal position offers a bold and community-focused leader the opportunity to be part of leading The Globe Theatre into the next chapter of its compelling story.

As the foremost operational leader of the organization and The Globe’s co-lead alongside the Artistic Director (AD), the ED is responsible for developing and operationalizing the business, vision, and focus of the organization. The ED provides oversight to all aspects of financials, including budgeting, forecasting, accounts receivable and payable, banking and payroll, as well as overall theatre operations. The ED also manages strategic partnerships, government relations and compliance, facilities and administration (including front of house), as well as all aspects of Human Resources (such as union and labor relations, and bargaining). Additionally, the ED acts as the administrative liaison to the Board of Directors, preparing and attending all committee and Board meetings.

Qualifications

Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming leader must have a deep and abiding commitment to advancing reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in all its forms and must believe, intrinsically, in the importance of leading with curiosity and welcoming ideas that can later be synthesized and turned into possibility. While all candidates are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to The Globe Theatre environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in the role:

  1. A visionary and strategic leader and manager, energized by the opportunity to work in the context of a co-leadership model;
  2. Demonstrated track record of leadership and administration in cultural institutions (ideally in the area of live performance and/or settings that bring with it annual programming and community engagement), or other relevant sectors such as the not-for-profit sector;
  3. Strong financial management skills, business acumen, and experience in implementing both annual and production/project-related budgets;
  4. A proven fundraiser possessing a track record of receiving funds from public sector organizations, foundations, private donors, and corporate sponsors;
  5. The ability to advance and maintain a collaborative and supportive workplace environment for staff.

How to Apply

The Globe Theatre is a strong advocate for diversity in all its forms, and encourages applications from Indigenous and racialized communities, persons with disabilities, the 2SLGTBQIA+ community, and those of diverse intersectional identities. The organization is partnering with BIPOC Executive Search to further diversify the applicant pool. All interested applicants can send their resume to Jason Murray and Melissa Sumnauth by e-mailing msumnauth@bipocsearch.com.

In accordance with the AODA Act, for applicants living with a disability accommodation will be provided throughout the search process. Should accommodations be required, please make Melissa Sumnauth aware by using the above address.

We thank everyone for their expression of interest—and are truly appreciative of the time individuals put into applying—but with the limitations of time only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
