Medical Leader: Physician Quality Leader (PQL) - Royal Columbian Hospital Job Summary The Physician Quality Leader (PQL) is a physician passionate about fostering a culture of safety in clinical services and establishing evidence‑based patient care models to enhance patient safety at their respective acute care site. This role involves collaboration with the Clinical Quality and Patient Safety Department, senior leadership, department heads, regional leaders, and support systems. The position reports to the Executive Medical Director (EMD), Clinical Quality and Patient Safety, and is part of the leadership team, which includes the Regional Medical Director/Regional Department Head, Local Department Heads, and other medical leads. It is a part‑time role, dedicating approximately seven (7) hours per month, and is a one‑year position. The PQL will partner with the local process improvement coordinator, review patient safety reports, support the development of quality improvement/safety projects, attend quarterly Patient Safety Priorities Update meetings, produce a semi‑annual report, provide a monthly status report, and present updates at the Health Services Quality Operational Management Committee (HQOMC) every three months. Key Areas of Involvement Provide local site leadership to physicians and other health care providers on quality and patient safety initiatives, including serving as a lead or advisor for physician‑driven projects. Work with the clinical quality and patient safety department, senior leadership, department leaders, regional leaders and support systems to establish evidence‑based patient care models. Identify quality improvement learning needs and participate in educational activities aimed at developing physician skills in clinical quality and patient safety. Facilitate physician participation in patient safety activities. Promote a Just Safety culture by modeling and encouraging open and honest communication. Provide expertise to the critical incident/quality review process through identification of recommendations and follow‑up actions. Analyze patient safety indicators and recommend strategies to leadership to improve clinical quality and patient safety. Provide clinical representation and input at site quality committee meetings.
