Director of Facility Services – Permanent Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta, serving approximately 17,750 students across 43 schools. The Division operates a Central Services building in Sherwood Park at 683 Wye Road, housing eight departments including Facility Services. The Director of Facilities is accountable for providing leadership and strategic direction to the Facilities Department, overseeing the management and maintenance of approximately 2.1 million square feet of school property. Responsibilities include cost‑effective facility operations, energy management, preventive maintenance, emergency preparedness, capital planning, risk management, asset management, negotiation of contracts, and stakeholder relations. The Director collaborates with senior leadership, school administrators, and external stakeholders to manage technical and financial complexities of EIPS facilities. Key Activities Strategic Planning and Capital Improvements: Provide long‑range leadership for the Division’s infrastructure portfolio, oversee preparation of the Ten‑Year Facilities Plan and Three‑Year Capital Plan, analyze capacity and condition data, advise senior leadership and the Board on enrollment growth, boundary adjustments, and facility optimization, and ensure alignment with municipal and provincial planning initiatives. Asset Management, Operations and Maintenance: Oversee performance, maintenance and renewal of school facilities, administer Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR), Capital Maintenance and Renewal (CMR) and Plant Operations and Maintenance (PO&M) programs, implement preventive‑maintenance programs, ensure compliance with building codes and health & safety requirements, and manage lease agreements and community use of facilities. Project and Financial Management: Oversee project scopes, budgets and financial performance, ensure compliance with provincial funding sources and procurement regulations, engage architects, engineers and consultants, and lead risk management, emergency preparedness and business continuity planning. Team Leadership and Community Relations: Provide vision, mentorship and accountability for department staff, champion professional growth and succession planning, cultivate strategic partnerships, and lead communication with stakeholders and the public regarding capital projects and emergent issues. Education Minimum: Degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, business or related field. Preferred: Relevant master’s degree and/or P.Eng. designation. Experience Minimum: Eight years of progressive facilities management experience in the public or non‑profit sector. Preferred: Experience in a school division. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to lead complex facility development projects with diverse stakeholders. Financial management experience and knowledge of capital projects and operating budgets. Knowledge of building construction methods, materials and envelope design fundamentals. Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations and safety standards. Superior listening, verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to lead strategic transformation initiatives and continuous improvement programs. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships. Strong planning and project management skills. Experience leading multidisciplinary teams. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong leadership skills for employee engagement and mentorship. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint and emerging software. Qualifications, Certifications and Designations Minimum: Certificate in Project Management. Preferred: Professional engineer designation (P.Eng.) and active membership of APEGGA; certifications in Maintenance Management (IAM, NAMS, PEMAC or IPWEA), Asset management, Infrastructure Planning, or Enterprise Resource Management.
