THE OPPORTUNITYWe have an exciting opportunity for an Executive Director to join Alberta Foster and Kinship Association (AFKA). The Executive Director will report directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for enabling the achievement of AFKA's vision, mission, and strategic objectives as guided by the organization's policies, and in accordance with AFKA's bylaws. The Executive Director is responsible for leading the operations of the organization, including strategic planning, governance, administration, finances, partnerships, programs, advocacy, government relations and communications.THE ORGANIZATIONThe Alberta Foster and Kinship Association is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to supporting foster and kinship caregivers across Alberta. Their mission is to empower these caregivers by providing essential resources, training, and a community of support, ensuring that every child and youth in the province receives the nurturing environment they deserve.For more information, please visit their website: www.afkaonline.caRESPONSIBILITIESStrategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans that advance AFKA's mission and ensure alignment with the organization's strategic goals and priorities.Administration and Reporting: Develop and implement policies and procedures and maintain accurate records and provide regular reports to the Board of Directors on key activities, financial performance, and organizational progress.People Management: Recruit, lead, and mentor support staff and volunteers across the province. These include full-time and contracted employees. Program Oversight: Ensure the effective delivery of programs and services that support caregivers, including the Caregiver Support Team, legal assistance, and educational initiatives.Workshops, Education and Training: Oversee the annual conference, training and workshops for members and internal and external partners.Advocacy: Serve as the primary spokesperson for AFKA, advocating for policies and practices that benefit foster and kinship caregivers and the children they support.Financial Stewardship: Oversee budgeting, financial management, and fundraising efforts to ensure the organization's sustainability and growth.Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with caregivers, community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders.Grant Writing and Fundraising: Identify and develop new revenue streams, programs and services and opportunities for fundraising.QUALIFICATIONSRelevant degree preferred; advanced degree in nonprofit management, business administration, social work or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.Proven experience in nonprofit leadership, including strategic planning, program management, and team leadership.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Child, Youth, Family Enhancement Act, as well as applicable policies.Experience working with the foster and kinship caregiving community is an asset.Strong understanding of policy board governance and collaboration.Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant management, and financial oversight.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.Experience advocating with various levels of government and key stakeholders to influence policy or decisions.Ability and willingness to travel, throughout Alberta, and to work evenings and weekends as needed.Passion for AFKA's mission and a commitment to supporting caregivers and children in AlbertaSuccessful candidates must complete a background check and obtain a vulnerable sector check.SKILLS & ATTRIBUTESTransparent leadership with clear communication, demonstrating strong ethics and credibility.Clear vision of the organization's future, working towards it; supporting innovation and change.Critical thinker with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.High emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills to mentor and develop staff.Manage finances and create annual work plans.Foster and maintain stakeholder relationships.FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACTSANDY JACOBSON | T: 780.944.1327| E: sandy.jacobson@richardsonsearch.ca | www.richardsonsearch.ca
