The Role We’re hiring a Junior Architectural Specifications Writer to produce accurate, compliant specifications that architects, engineers, and manufacturers rely on. This is a remote role for candidates legally entitled to work in Canada. You will coordinate specifications with designer-owned drawings and deliver to CSI and Construction Specifications Canada requirements, including MasterFormat, SectionFormat, and PageFormat. This is detail-critical work. Errors impact tenders, procurement, and contract administration, so accuracy under deadline pressure is non-negotiable. You will support Canadian delivery and contribute to US project specification services across commercial mixed-use, healthcare, and civic projects. Are you an aspiring Specification Author, Specifications Specialist, Spec Writer, Architectural Specifications Writer? This is what you’ll be doing Draft, edit, and publish project and product specifications to CSI/Construction Specification Canada standards. Use NBS Chorus to action client markups and version control. Shadow a senior writer, then own small projects with coaching and reviews. Coordinate drawings and spec content; keep everything aligned and compliant. Speak with manufacturers daily; validate products and performance data. Prepare fee proposals, tender packages, contracts, and procurement requirements. Support Canadian delivery and our US specification services as they grow. Research materials, codes, and methods; maintain technical libraries and standards. Balance multiple deadlines; communicate risks early and keep stakeholders updated. About You This role asks for focus, resilience, and care. You’ll juggle competing timelines and complex detail—and you’ll grow fast. You have at least 12 months in an AEC environment with hands-on architectural specification work and coordinating those specifications against drawings. Graduates with a 12-month industry placement will be considered. You understand how contract documents fit together and are comfortable with MasterFormat, SectionFormat, and PageFormat, with awareness of CCDC. You write clearly, stay organised under deadlines, and follow through. You collaborate well in a remote team and communicate proactively. You will align specs to designer-owned drawings, keep project manuals current, and protect tenders and contract administration through accuracy. Bonus for experience with any of the following NBS Chorus, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, confident PDF mark‑ups for submittals and revisions, bilingual English/French, CSC or CSI involvement, and progression toward CSP, RSW, or CCCA. Nice to have 1+ year with an architecture/engineering firm; 1+ year focused spec writing. Codes and standards familiarity; strong stakeholder communication.
