Core Logging Geologist - FIFO from Western Canada Summary The Core Logging Geologist reports directly to the Senior Mine Geologist and will perform geological logging of drill core, geological data collection and interpretation to support Keno Hill mine development and grade control processes. About Us The Keno Hill mine is located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Keno Hill is one of the highest‑grade silver districts in the world, situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na‑Cho Nyak Dun. The mine comprises 242 km² with numerous mineral deposits and over 35 historical past‑producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7–3.1 million ounces of silver in 2025 as the mine ramps up production. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer and a winner of numerous safety and environmental awards. What You Can Expect In This Role Respect, know, and promote regulation and policies with regards to health and safety. Logging of Definition and Grade Control Diamond Drill Core, including collection of drill core recovery, structural data, alteration/mineralization, and host rock descriptions. Accurate entry of data into the geology database. Adherence to established Drill Core sampling and QA/QC procedures. Preparation of samples for shipment to the lab as per Hecla’s procedures. Daily tracking of underground drilling progress. Preparation of interpretive geological cross‑sections and level plans integrating lithological, structural, historic mapping, and drilling data. Support of the planning and implementation of the annual underground drilling program. Support ore grade control procedures as needed. Continuous building and maintenance of strong working knowledge of relevant software packages including Deswik, Leapfrog, GeoSpark, acQuire and Microsoft Office Suite. Other duties may be assigned, including but not limited to underground mapping and chip sampling. Promotion of a strong environmental culture and teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices. Qualifications Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from a recognized Canadian University or equivalent. Legally entitled to work in Canada. Able to physically meet the requirement for the position, including standing for extended periods and moving core boxes. Minimum of 1 year diamond drill core logging experience. Experience in the geology of narrow vein precious metals and underground mining environment is considered an asset. Collaborative team player who works well in multidisciplinary teams. Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills. Registered as, or able to be registered as, Geologist in Training. Experience with Leapfrog, GeoSpark, acQuire and MS Office Suite is considered an asset. Strong oral and written communication skills. Valid Class 5 driver’s license. Use and maintain PPE. Provide suggestions for improving work processes. Assist management by supporting change to achieve desired targets. Ensure plant and equipment operate within safe working limits. Ensure correct equipment is used for the job. Participate in risk assessment methodology. Participate in safety initiatives. Receive training and instruction as required. Maintain good housekeeping standards. Work Environment Employees will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions (snow, ice, extreme temperatures), contact with potentially hazardous wildlife, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, use of explosives, risk of electrical shock and vibration. Noise levels can occasionally be loud, depending on task or location on site. Work Location & Schedule This is a fly‑in fly‑out position based at a remote mining camp, operating on a rotational schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off. Camp accommodations and meals are provided while on site. All travel to and from the mine site is arranged through a designated travel agency and coordinated from approved flight hubs. Candidates who reside in the Yukon, British Columbia, and Alberta, particularly near major transportation centers, are preferred.
