Our client in Downtown Toronto is looking for a Software Test Engineer to join their team for a 4-month contract

Role

As a Software Test Engineer, you will be responsible for developing robust, scalable, and high-quality test automation solutions to ensure the reliability of clients' internal systems. As a key member of an agile Scrum team, your responsibilities will include conducting functional automation testing, API testing, and following agile methodologies to maintain high standards of software quality. Additionally, you will participate in code reviews, mentor junior Test Engineers, and contribute to continuous improvement within the team.


Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the execution of automated testing frameworks, processes, and tools.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and leadership in automation testing design and test architecture.
  • Identify opportunities to coach and mentor junior Test Engineers.
  • Assist with the onboarding and initial training of new IT Test Engineers.
  • Conduct code reviews, including automation scripts and application code, ensuring quality standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance test automation systems and tools to support the efforts of test engineers.
  • Execute automated test cases, scripts, and scenarios to ensure software functionality and reliability.
  • Help assess product quality and readiness for release.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of automated test suites.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot test automation failures to determine root causes.
  • Identify, report, and track defects using bug-tracking tools while working closely with development teams for timely resolution.
  • Support testing for all programming changes impacting First National’s software, B2B connections, web service calls, documents, underwriting systems, and websites, ensuring documentation and review before approval.
  • Assist in the preparation for software and product implementation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Skills And Qualifications
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience as a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) or in a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies, software testing principles, and quality assurance processes.
  • Extensive experience in designing and developing robust, reusable automation test frameworks and infrastructure from scratch.
  • Proficient in C#, Java, or JavaScript and experienced with Selenium WebDriver for automation testing.
  • Extensive experience with source control tools (e.g., Git) and issue tracking tools (e.g., Azure DevOps).
  • Proficient in SQL with a solid understanding of relational database systems.
  • Extensive experience with API/service testing tools such as SoapUI and Postman.
  • Experience with Test Complete, Protractor, Cypress, or Playwright is a plus.
  • A background in development is advantageous.
  • Demonstrates the ability to think independently, solve problems, and quickly grasp new concepts.
  • Skilled in debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Capable of self-motivation, prioritization, and meeting deadlines.

Rate
  • $35.00 - $40.00/hour
