The UI-Assist team at ServiceNow Research is pioneering generalist web agents capable of autonomously navigating complex workflows through browser-based interactions. From acting as research assistants who organize literature reviews to automating IT service requests, we push the boundaries of AI-powered automation. Our focus spans developing advanced capabilities for WorkArena, WorkArena++, and WebArena benchmarks, fine-tuning LLMs to enhance reasoning and task performance, and exploring novel approaches in dataset creation, multimodal understanding, and AI feedback-driven learning.
We are seeking a Staff Research Scientist to guide cutting-edge research and development on Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal web agents. This is a high-impact role that blends advanced research with engineering rigor, requiring expertise in LLM training, fine-tuning, and deployment at scale. As a key member of the UI-Assist team, you will contribute to groundbreaking advancements in building intelligent web agents and transforming the future of work.
What You Get to Do in This Role:
- Drive research and development of generalist web agents capable of handling diverse browser-based workflows, with a focus on improving performance in WorkArena, WorkArena++, and WebArena benchmarks.
- Conduct efforts to fine-tune LLMs for advanced reasoning and alignment with browser-based tasks, leveraging AI feedback and exploration techniques to improve model capabilities.
- Innovate in multimodal agent development by integrating pixel-level web interpretation with language-based reasoning.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product managers to produce high-quality research papers, patents, and open-source contributions.
- Mentor junior team members and interns, fostering a collaborative research environment and driving the production of impactful research publications.
- Communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, advocating for the application of your research in real-world products.
- A PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Deep expertise in training and fine-tuning LLMs, including techniques like instruction fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, and exploration-based approaches.
- Strong engineering skills with Python, and familiarity with OOP, design patterns, and collaborative workflows (e.g., li>
- Proven experience managing large-scale experiments on remote clusters, including distributed training across multiple GPUs.
- Ability to bridge research and engineering, delivering innovative yet practical solutions that integrate into scalable systems.
- Experience mentoring junior researchers and managing collaborative projects within a team.
