Associate Lawyer – Family Law Lyons Law Firm is a growing law firm in Norfolk County who is looking to add an additional lawyer to it's growing team. We offer the community access to legal services that may otherwise be limited or unfeasible to the residents of Haldimand-Norfolk counties. Our primary focus is to educate people on their rights and guide them through the legal process. The firm offers the personal service expected of a small-town firm with the technology and legal resources of a big city firm. We are currently looking for a lawyer with a one to three years experience in family law to join our team but are willing to interview new calls that are willing to learn and be mentored. We are in a rural community so a valid driver's licence and ability attend in person at the office or court houses will be a requirement. Role and Responsibilities You will be carrying your own case load of family and criminal law clients including legal aid files. There will be ongoing mentorship and support from the firm. You will be responsible for ensuring all your matters are kept up-to-date, deadlines are met, and updates are communicated to all relevant parties. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and procedures within family and criminal law. Appearance at court or virtually as required. Fulfill all continuous professional development requirements to maintain membership with the Law Society of Ontario. Follow office procedures and protocol. Docket billable time. Lyons Law Firm will cover the continuous professional development expenses as well as LawPRO insurance. Pay will be based on experience. Health Benefits are included with employment. Requirements All applicants must be licenced to practice law in Ontario and be in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Motivation to learn and resourcefulness is key. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel etc...) Family Law and / or Criminal Law experience is an asset but not a requirement. Good grasp of the Family Law Rules. Good grasp of the Criminal Rules of the Ontario Court of Justice, Familiarity with the Family Law Act, Divorce Act, Children's Law Reform Act, Criminal Code, and other applicable statutes. Job Types : Full-time, Permanent Salary is commiserate with experience. Commission is in addition to base salary.
