Senior Interior Designer, Healthcare

Your Opportunity You will help lead and mentor colleagues within the interior design team and work collaboratively with architectural teams, conceptualizing, developing, and documenting various aspects of interior design of a project, including space planning, interior architecture, interior materials and finishes, specifications, FFE and signage. Your Key Responsibilities Manage projects and schedules on smaller projects where interior design is the prime consultant, overseeing administrative aspects such as client and consultant contract negotiations, project set‑up, invoicing, planning, and staff scheduling. Participate in development of the program and other pre‑design efforts. Engage in workshop discussions with clients to ascertain cultural and desired project outcomes. Lead teams in developing space planning, block planning, and adjacency diagrams in coordination with building program. Develop interior design, material palette and FFE through sketches, digital/BIM models, diagrams, and other visual formats to express design intent and coordinate with the Design Architect. Understand and use BIM technologies to develop three‑dimensional models of interiors and components. Participate in design critiques and pin‑ups. Coordinate drawings sets with outside consultants. Ensure designs comply with building codes, sustainability requirements such as LEED, AODA, and accessibility guidelines. Evaluate and select interior systems, materials, finishes, and fixtures. Coordinate building systems to align with design intent and sustainable principles. Develop interior design within cost parameters and maintain intent through documentation and construction. Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating. Complete FFE scope tasks from design and selection through bid, coordinating with client and project needs. Adhere to Stantec’s QA/QC process, including design reviews. Adhere to Stantec’s internal and external project auditing process. Where required, engage in business development activities and project interviews. Lead project proposals and RFP responses, supporting larger proposals. Mentor and collaborate with colleagues. Demonstrate commitment to the profession and the firm. Your Capabilities and Credentials Thorough knowledge and application of accessibility codes and applicable building codes. Comprehensive understanding of all phases of architectural document production through construction administration. Ability to handle multiple projects and teams simultaneously. Capability to create project plans and schedules. Responsibility for project profitability. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Management of team deliverables with client expectations and requirements. Expertise in space planning, block planning, and adjacencies coordinated with building program. Skill in developing floor plans, elevations, and details. Attention to accuracy, completeness, time management to meet project budget and schedule. Collaboration in all phases of document production. Creative and critical thinking. Interpretation of sketches, drawings, building program, and related material. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; experience with Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma, Bluebeam. Strong client management and internal team management skills. Excellent presentation abilities, including presenting abstract ideas to the client. Strong communication skills. Education and Experience Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Interior Design. Member of ARIDO/IDC; NCIDQ registered. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in interior design; healthcare experience required. Evidence of experience in the Ontario Healthcare planning and design environment, including Ministry of Health capital planning approval stages. Experience in Alternate Finance Project (AFP – P3) delivery methodology, either in PDC or Proponent role, considered an asset; Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) experience also preferred. Project Management certification preferred. Additional Information Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time; field work may require travel and exposure to elements, including inclement weather.
