Blush Lane is looking for an Assistant Store Manager to join our growing team at the Whyte Ave location (8135-102 Street NW, Edmonton).

The Assistant Store Manager, reporting to and working closely with the Store Manager, is essential for leading employees and ensuring the store runs smoothly. They coordinate the tasks of employees and ensure that store policies and regulations are followed. The Assistant Store Manager is expected to be able to fulfill Store Manager’s duties in their absence.

  • Be a customer service champion by building relationships and asking questions.
  • Support the hiring and training of new employees on overall store operations and department-specific tasks.
  • Ensure that all staff are sales-driven and customer service focused.
  • Coach, train, manage, and schedule all cashiers' shifts for optimal customer service experience.
  • Establish and maintain good relations with suppliers, sales representatives, and other retailers.
  • Oversee grocery department operations including hiring, training, ordering, etc.
Store Operations:
  • Monitor display accuracy and appearance. li>
  • Oversee the management and monitor the handling of cash and accounting procedures.
  • Acknowledge, recognize, and reward employees for outstanding performance or contributions.
  • Identify, plan, or support team-building opportunities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong working knowledge of the retail grocery industry.
  • Ability to work in a high-performance environment with an open and consistent approach to working with others.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills; able to bring alignment and focus throughout the store at all levels of employees.
  • Solid working knowledge of budgeting and forecasting. Can analyze, project, and report on inventory and operating costs.

Required to adapt to temperature changes on occasion (working on the retail floor as well as in coolers and freezers).

Required to stand and walk for long periods during the shift.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically requires completion of a post-secondary program with an emphasis in business, plus 2 to 3 years of progressively responsible managerial experience in retail, preferably in the perishable food industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Successful completion of a Public Health Food Handler certification plus Standard First Aid CPR-C & AED certification, or the commitment to complete within 6 months.

Fluency in English and French shall be considered an asset.

Experience in working with various computer software programs; Microsoft Office.

Flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

  • Overtime is a requirement of the position.
  • Special projects and other duties may be assigned as required.
  • Some travel (including overnight) will be required to assist other store locations or to attend training.
