POSITION OVERVIEW

The Fire & Life Safety Coop will be involved with development, design, inspection/audit, and administrative assistance activities to support LRI's consulting work for private and public sector projects. Under the supervision of an assigned mentor, the Fire & Life Safety Coop will assist on a variety of tasks related to Fire and Life Safety and Emergency Management services to assist the company's clients to develop and implement safety plans in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

This position is on-site at our office in downtown Toronto. Some travel to sites in and around the GTA will be required. We are seeking a Coop Student from May 2024 through to the end of August 2024. This is a full-time position, 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Assist with Fire Safety Plan and Emergency Plan preparation
2. Assist in monitoring evacuation drills and producing reports
3. Assist in the review and interpretation of mechanical and electrical drawings
4. Assist with Fire Code compliance reviews and audits
5. Assist with the design and coordination of fire safety training, drills, and exercises
6. Conduct risk assessments and audits
7. Assist with preparing Fire Warden training
8. Communicate with clients (i.e., telephone, email, and letter)
9. Assist consultants when attending client meetings and meetings with Authorities Having Jurisdiction
10. Assist with proposal preparation
11. Travel to client sites as required

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Currently attending or recently graduated from a University or College program related to Fire Safety or Fire Protection
2. Interested in the fire protection, life Safety, and emergency management industry
3. Willing and able to familiarize yourself with the building, fire, life safety, and emergency management codes, standards, and best practices; Prior knowledge of and/or experience with the Ontario Fire Code is an asset
4. Technically oriented; good analytical and organizational skills; attention to detail; able to complete tasks and projects in established timelines
5. Self-starter that exhibits a high level of initiative and resourcefulness
6. An individual with high standards who holds themselves accountable
7. Versatile and able to manage varying workloads
8. A real team player
9. Prior experience with AutoCAD is an asset
10. Proficient with Microsoft Office
11. Bilingual in French and English is an asset
