Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Business Development Leader to deliver profitable growth in the British Columbia region, working out of our Vancouver office.
Reporting to the VP, Sales & Distribution West, you will be responsible for delivering profitable growth through selling a suite of solutions in a unified way while also managing the existing portfolio. This comprises the development of an intimate knowledge of a given distributor's business model and proposition. The Business Development Leader would also be responsible to create customized business plans which optimizes identified opportunities that align with our market basket strategies.

What you will do- Responsible for broker performance and sales: Aggressively seeks new and support profitable renewal account opportunities and collaborates with teams of underwriters to facilitate closing the opportunity.
- Conducts discussions with broker partners to develop a detailed and accurate distribution profile and business plan.
- Completes and maintains a detailed opportunity assessment with key brokers, which also identifies distributor growth areas that align with Zurich's broad range of insurance products and services.
- Builds strong business relationships at multiple levels of the distributor's organization.
- Conducts regular sales calls with distributor and internal functions with frequency aligned to opportunity and need.
- Collaborate with multiple internal Business Units to execute business plans.
- Conducts frequent reviews with distributors, manages their performance to ensure execution of the business plan.
- Qualifies accounts to meet with Zurich's appetite.
- In partnership with underwriters, negotiates to close accounts with distributors.
- Drives and manages process to increase Zurich product density at existing accounts.
- Builds internal relationships with Zurich Business Units to facilitate a unified face to market.
- Serves as the escalation point for distributor on all matters including service, sales, underwriting and claim.
- Manages an active sales pipeline including new appointments, programs, portfolios, large accounts and other distribution opportunities.
- Support Underwriting primarily in the Middle Market space to achieve goals related to sales calls, submissions, hit ratios, and production.
- Effectively executes sales strategies and campaigns.
- Manage, leverage and communicate broker compensation, CPC and similar initiatives to maximize our partnerships.
- Help be a visible and engaged presence in the BC insurance industry to build our brand awareness and support our ambitious growth plans.
- Maintain and share a high degree of industry insights and awareness in the rapidly changing landscape.
- Business Travel within British Columbia (Primarily Lower Mainland with occasional travel to Vancouver Island, Interior, Northern, Kootenays, etc.).
- Travel to Toronto head-office and other Zurich Canada offices may be required 1-2 times per year.
Required:
- Bachelors Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Sales area
- OR
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Sales area
- OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Sales area
Preferred:
- Six or more years of Commercial Underwriting, Broking and/or Broker Distribution experience
- Strong knowledge of the broker distribution landscape in British Columbia.
- Strong Analytical skills; Familiarity with Sales Force and PowerBI Preferred
- Ability to execute effective sales strategies
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to facilitate critical business relationships both to internal and external stakeholders
- CIP/FCIP/CRM Designations preferred
Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The salary range provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles. Compensation may exceed the range listed based on the evaluation of skillset and experience. The starting salary range for this position is $85,000 to $129,000.
