Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe incumbent is responsible for maintaining contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) through operation/use of heavy equipment, particularly during seasonal needs (e.g., snow plow operations) and other contract requirements. This role requires a high level of safety awareness and the ability to recognize hazards and adjust to avoid loss, injury or accident. You must be able to communicate safety instructions with co-workers and maintain focus on safety while using tools and equipment. PPE appropriate to the job must be worn.We are seeking Snow Plow / Seasonal Equipment Operators for the seasonal time period of October through April.We offer competitive pay and other seasonal benefits. A minimum DZ license is required for this job. ResponsibilitiesPrimary Duties And ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Primary Responsibilities And Key DeliverablesFor Winter Season - Removal of snow and ice using snow removal and/or sanding equipment, including salting and other seasonal maintenance on roads, bridges, etc.For Summer Season - This role will maintain and repair highway and other surfaces including signs, guardrails, fences, lighting, potholes, striping, adding or replacing reflectors, litter and debris removal.As RequiredTraffic control setup and removalTransport crew and equipment to work sitesRequired to be available for emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.All other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesEffectively communicate (in English); both orally and in writing with co-workers and supervisor.Performs basic mathematical functions.Consistently follow all policies and procedures.Understand instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Must be capable of working in an environment where demands and priorities change rapidly.Work with hand and power tools, traffic control devices and mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers and other equipment used for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair. Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent1+ years related work experience in related construction, road maintenance, commercial/industrial repair, operating equipment with a DZ license. Certifications and LicenseValid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and acceptable driving record; AZ license is a plus. Work Conditions/Physical DemandsPhysical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to stand; sit; walk on a wide range of surfaces; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Use manual and powered tools and equipment. Vision includes close and distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work EnvironmentOutside weather conditions, extreme heat and cold; occasional wet/humid conditions; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles. Frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, insects; infrequent exposure to reptiles/rodents. Noise level usually moderate but can be higher.
