OverviewGeneral Surgeon position at qathet General Hospital, Powell River. This permanent opportunity is to replace a retiring surgeon and join a small team serving a community of approximately 25,000 on the North Sunshine Coast. The hospital provides full-service general surgery including endoscopy, with support from a group of primary care physicians and specialists.ResponsibilitiesProvide a broad general surgery practice, including office, endoscopy, ambulatory, and operating room procedures.Collaborate with a team of two other surgeons in a well-established clinic and office with experienced medical office assistants.Share on-call and scheduled hospital-based duties in a 6-week cycle (4 weeks on, 2 weeks off). On-call weeks include endoscopy, ambulatory, and OR days, plus clinic time.Participate in teaching and mentorship for 1–2 general surgery residents per year.Contribute to a schedule developed collaboratively among the three surgeons, with flexibility to accommodate vacations and important dates.Comply with the Provincial Health Officer’s COVID-19 vaccination order as a condition of employment.QualificationsAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – DesiredAdvanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) – DesiredCurrent College of Physicians of British Columbia (CPSBC) – Full licenseCanadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – MandatoryFellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) – MandatoryRemuneration & BenefitsCompensation type: Fee-for-ServicePotential incentives: Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including Retention Premium and related supports; relocation funding available; recruitment incentivePotential eligibility for BC or Canada student loan forgiveness programs for those living and working in rural communitiesComprehensive benefits: MSP, extended health, dental, and pension plan; wellness supports for employees and families; leadership development opportunitiesRecognition programs for staff, medical staff, and volunteersStart Date & ConditionsStart date: As Soon As Possible or negotiable.
