Position Summary Under the supervision of the Associate Director of The Neuro's Communications Department, the Communications Officer is responsible for supporting The Neuro's mission. This position will lead web and online strategies and seek out new opportunities for global outreach and engagement. Develop comprehensive communications plans, written and online communication materials in order to support and promote the activities and institutional priorities of The Neuro. Develop communication projects from concept to production, working with internal and external resources. Primary Responsibilities Responsible for engaging various internal and external audiences online, through creative use and effective management of digital channels, including the website and newsletters, and building online communities. Ensure that Neuro staff and patients are actively engaged on our website and other digital communications platforms. Responsible for designing and implementing new features and functionality, guiding the website's architecture, and managing the technical aspects of the Drupal CMS. Write, collate (including copy editing and proofreading where necessary) and upload high quality, engaging content to The Neuro website. Ensure the website is kept up-to-date and relevant, and follows best practices concerning design, usability and accessibility. Ensure The Neuro website is visible to target audiences through effective search engine optimization. Keep abreast of the latest innovations in digital communications and make suggestions for new ways of promoting The Neuro’s work and messages online. Support the Communications team with other communications projects and activities and perform other duties and tasks as required, consistent with the skills of the post-holder. Other Qualifying Skills and/Or Abilities Demonstrated ability to create communications materials on a wide range of topics and to edit print and online publications. Strong writing, copyediting and proofreading skills with the ability to make complex information accessible, craft engaging online content and a familiarity with optimizing text for search engines. Online marketing and SEO skills. Technical aptitude with confidence in navigating different digital platforms, working in Drupal and handling different file types, as well as a strong attention to detail. Proven experience of managing websites, including planning content priorities, writing, preparing and uploading content. Knowledge of best practices in website design, search engine optimization techniques and a good understanding of emerging digital trends. Experience measuring the performance of websites and digital channels, and reporting against performance indicators. Experience producing and/or managing multimedia content such as photography, video and audio, including some experience in basic film/audio editing. Communications-related work experience, in a communications or marketing role. Experience working in a university research or hospital or health organization is an asset. Detail oriented, with strong organizational, priority-setting, troubleshooting and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and complex concepts in accessible terms. Ability to think creatively. The ability to liaise with multiple internal (hospital and research) and external clients and to work autonomously and as part of a team in a fast‑paced, changing, deadline‑oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to work in a PC environment using MS Office.
