Beyond credit oversight the AVP will foster a strong collaborative relationship with the First Line of Defense helping to elevate their credit expertise through proactive coaching, clear communication and strategic alignment on transactions. This role requires close partnership with business partners to effectively assess, monitor and manage risk ensuring decisions remain aligned with BDC’s overall risk appetite.Challenges to be metDecision loans disbursements and amendments within established authorization limits and guidelines and aligned to BDC’s risk appetite.Maintain and improve the quality of customer service through timely, effective and professional service to first line personnel while ensuring the integrity of the portfolio through adherence to due diligence and administrative processes.Focus on the development of a strong relationship between the 1st Line of Defense and 2nd Line Defense with a specific focus on assisting in enhancing the 1st Line of Defenses risk management practices. Coach, guide and develop area management / employees in all aspects of credit acumen and provide input to performance assessments by being vigilant in recognizing their strengths and weaknesses and participating in identifying training and development solutions for them.Contribute to the execution of area business plan and profitable growth strategies by ensuring that correct credit due diligence processes are in place and by developing and maintaining strong communications with area management / employees to closely monitor key variables for successful delivery of financial services.Actively participate in business centre / area conferences and conduct regular visits to business centres to assist in structuring and underwriting transactions, provide development opportunities to 1st Line of Defense team member.Be proactive in identifying, recommending and contributing to enhancements in loan policies, processes and products; provide leadership in their delivery and assist employees in their application and interpretation including current issues related to credit risk and industry sector focus.Maintain and improve the quality of BDC’s portfolio by authorizing, recommending or declining loans, disbursements, amendments, etc. within established authorization limits and guidelines.Participate and / or lead various Corporate and / or Regional projects to support continuous improvement of existing processes and procedures while maximizing efficiencies and effectiveness in alignment with the Risk Management framework.What we are looking forMinimum of 10 years of experience at BDC and / or another financial institution in business unit management, commercial development, underwriting and / or adjudication of larger / complex loans aligning to the Corporate Financing segment.Experience in leading team members (with demonstrated effective coaching techniques) and working to enhance risk management practices across the Lines of Defense.Ability to make recommendations and decisions aligned to key issues and broader business considerations and context.Autonomous attention to detail; knows how to manage priorities.Ability to create and maintain good working relationships across the Lines of Defense.Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; ability to obtain information and escalate identified issues tactfully and effectively.Excellent communication skills both written and oral.Bachelors degree in Finance or Business Administration.Ability to quickly identify the business context and key issues.Autonomy, thoroughness and good management of priorities.Excellent writing skills.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees & partners.Strong interpersonal and communication skills able to effectively obtain information and communicate issues.Strong credit skills.Effective coaching skills.Ability to work independently.Bilingual (French / English is considered an asset).Proudly one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers.
