Requisition ID: 199836 Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture. **_ Purpose_** Oversee and leads a team of auditors responsible for internal audit activities for Retail Credit & Model Risk in support of the Audit Department in executing its global mandate. Determines whether internal controls, risk management and governance processes are adequately designed, implemented and operating effectively. **_ Accountabilities_**_ _**: - Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. - Manages the Annual Planning and Risk Assessment process by preparing the Plan strategy and providing input into the development, completion and reporting of the Annual Audit Plan, ensuring audit methodology is used, objectives are met, Plan is completed, that appropriate working papers are maintained and conform to IIA and Department Standards. - Validates business line Audit Plans and conducts risk assessments throughout the year to identify other areas of emerging risk for audit coverage consideration and ensures the latest industry standards and regulatory requirements are incorporated to keep the Plan current and robust. - Reviews audit issues to ensure internal control weaknesses and root causes are identified, properly defines, documented and reported; ensures issues are understood by senior management and that corrective action will be taken; prepares and reviews audit reports for presentation to line management. - Maintains effective internal communication across the Audit Department as well as effective lines of communication with auditees and senior management, including appropriate handling of conflicts and issues resolution. - Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams. - Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. - Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team. **_ Dimensions / Education / Experience & Other information_**: - Spanish is an asset. - Global responsibility for the planning and execution of auditing the Bank’s retail credit portfolios, both Canadian and in IB and model risk - Primary functions include providing independent assurance over policies, procedures and internal controls over Retail Credit Risk and Model Risk across all of the Bank’s business lines and geographies as well as Global Risk Management. - Directing the execution of the Audit Plan. - Managing project costs within allocated budgets. - Managing relationships with Senior Vice Presidents and Executive Vice President in Global Risk Management and in the respective Business Lines who have responsibility over Retail Credit and Model Risk. - Participate as necessary in key Credit Risk & Model Risk management committees. - Professional accounting or similar risk-based designation, or MBA/CFA. - 10 years of relevant experience in a leadership role in any of following: retail credit risk management, retail banking, model risk or internal audit. - Thorough knowledge of Banking and the financial services industry. - Working knowledge of the operations and regulatory environments of each of the audit units globally, as required for specific areas of assigned responsibility. - Demonstrated ability to supervise multiple projects at any given time. - Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to work with staff and management at various levels.
