The Youth Community Support Program (YCSP) within the Child and Adolescent Addiction and Mental Health and Psychiatry Program (CAAMHPP), is for youth (13-17 years old) identified as frequent users of tertiary services and focuses on providing a collaborative, transdisciplinary enhanced approach to care. This position will be located at Wood’s Homes but works closely with other AHS programs and community providers. The AHS team is also part of the greater, transdisciplinary YCSP team which includes staff from Wood’s Homes and Education. The Psychologist I acts primarily in a testing/assessment role for youth ages 13-17 years. Competency in choosing and applying assessment methods based on the best available clinical psychological evidence, including but not limited to standardized measures of cognitive, adaptive, behavioural, and emotional functioning is required. The ability to communicate clear, practical, evidence-based diagnoses, assessment findings, plans, and recommendations to the team, families and other service providers as appropriate is also necessary. Strong collaborative skills, an understanding of partnerships and connection with community partners and the ability to coordinate service delivery with other CAAMHPP services and staff is essential. The Psychologist I may also be involved in case conferences, therapeutic groups, staff meetings, professional development activities, student supervision, program planning, liaising with other AHS and community partners. An opportunity to carry a small caseload for individual therapy may also exist. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Psychologist I, you will work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment. Your services may include psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as educational activities. You will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practices and ethical and professional standards. You will provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes and team functioning, and consult and collaborate with teams and community services. Your duties may also include providing supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists and/or masters level psychology students, and providing input into program, policy and/or procedure development in addition to participating in formal research initiatives.
Master's degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).
Minimum 3 years’ experience in community mental health providing assessment and treatment with adolescents with a wide variety of mental health, developmental, learning and behavioral issues within the last 5 years. Experience liaising with schools, Children's Services, and other community agencies. Experience administering the following psycho-educational tools such as the WISC and WIAT; personality assessment tools such as the MMPI or MACI. Competency in using the DSM V diagnoses. Theoretical knowledge or experience with Trauma Informed Care and attachment-based perspectives. Experience and skills in crisis assessment, intervention and treatment including but not limited to Suicide Risk assessments across a variety of settings. Must be comfortable assessing potential for client risk and act to ensure safety of client, self and others. Intermediate to advanced computer skills are required. This position may require occasional evening work.
Experience administering the following assessment tools: CDI, MASC, ADOS, ADIR, or other related assessment tools. Training and experience in group therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other evidence-based modalities.
