Position Description The Chief Mechanical Estimator will manage the operations of the Mechanical Estimating Department from our Gatineau or Montreal office. This operational leader coordinates the entire estimation process for mechanical projects across Canada, ensuring the efficiency, quality and consistency of bids while collaborating closely with the Estimating Department Director on market positioning and strategic initiatives. Key Responsibilities Operational Management and Team Supervision: Manage the department workflow, distribute projects, establish deadlines, and directly supervise estimators to ensure quality and adherence to schedules. Strategic Collaboration: Work with the Estimating Department Director to define pricing strategies, competition analysis and opportunity targeting. Technical Validation: Act as the technical expert and final verifier of estimates, ensuring accuracy of quantity calculations and alignment with plans and specifications. Project Analysis and Coaching: Participate in site visits and information sessions, coaching the team to review all key information and establish clear scopes of work. Negotiation and Submissions: Oversee detailed submission preparation, lead technical negotiations with clients, and validate estimates with the Director before submission. Process Optimization: Implement methods and tools to improve the estimating department’s operational efficiency. Training and Development: Provide continuous technical training for junior and senior estimators, fostering expertise development. Business Relationships: Maintain and grow relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and technical partners. Skills and Qualifications A minimum of 8 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator, ideally in commercial or industrial sectors. Proven operational leadership and ability to manage workflow and motivate teams. Advanced proficiency in reading and analyzing complex mechanical plans and specifications, mastery of estimating tools and databases. Excellent communication and negotiation skills in both French and English, with a talent for influencing and contract negotiation. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and prioritization skills to meet tight deadlines. Interpersonal skills that inspire collaboration, show social aptitude, open‑mindedness and effective stress management. College Diploma (DEC) in Building Mechanics, Construction, Building Estimation and Evaluation Technology; a university degree is an asset.
