Junior DBA

Junior Database Administrator We are hiring a Junior Database Administrator. In this role, you will be part of a team that is responsible for managing critical databases in a 24x7 environment, monitoring the health of DB2 systems to ensure high availability, addressing client requirements, and designing new database applications. You will work with a 10-person Database Administration Group supporting complete data management for some of the world’s largest brokerage firms. The environment consists of 23 DB2 Version 12 subsystems, over 800 DB2 databases, 25,000 tables, using over 70 terabytes of data. Essential Responsibilities Implements data models, database designs, data access methods and performs all aspects of database and table maintenance and administration. Consults with application development teams and advises them on the correct usage of appropriate data manipulation techniques. Responsible for storage management, backup and recovery, monitoring and maintaining ongoing performance of databases, and developing updates or modifications according to business needs. Monitors and reviews and collaborates with other database administrators to ensure correct practices and procedures. Supports replicating of data from DB2 z/OS to distributed platforms. Provides on‑call support. Designs technical solutions and prepares implementation methods to be performed by other DBA team members. Supports our Disaster Recovery program across a GDPS, Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex. Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards. Qualifications Excellent communication skills. College degree in Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience. 0‑1 years of experience in database administration or related IT fields. Skills Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain DB2 databases in all platforms – z/OS, LUW. Knowledge of other distributed databases – SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, cloud-based DBs – helpful. Knowledge of operating systems such as Windows, Linux, UNIX desirable. Knowledge of DB2 utilities, backup, recovery, load, check, REORG, runstats desirable. Knowledge of programming languages helpful (Cobol, Java, SQL, REXX). Knowledge of server configuration, network protocols and network configuration. Advanced problem‑solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to resolve complex issues with innovative solutions.
