Work Location: Markham, Ontario, Canada Hours: 37.5 Line Of Business: TD Insurance Pay Details: $59,500 - $84,000 CAD Job Description Appropriate medical underwriting assessment and decisions for each risk according to plan limits and underwriting philosophy, meeting business guidelines and service standards. Gather insurance risk information via written supplementary health questionnaires or phone conversations with customers. Provide support to the claims department and handle claim referrals. Provide a superior customer experience service on all activities. Communicate underwriting decisions and detailed explanations of adverse handling promptly and accurately to clients and, where required, attending physicians. Ensure applications are underwritten and processed according to TD’s underwriting guidelines as well as the terms of third‑party agreements. Provide first‑level problem and complaint resolution. Process underwriter referrals, create training sessions on medical topics and participate in projects. Department Overview The Underwriting Department performs the mortality and morbidity risk assessment of insurance applications for Creditor Life Insurance and Critical Illness Insurance as well as Term Life Insurance distributed through outbound calls and internet direct sales. The department’s goal is to ensure that underwriting practices and decisions meet the mortality and morbidity claims experience for the specific product lines. There is a large focus on the Customer Experience, and the department handles high volumes in a rapidly paced environment. This position will be underwriting Creditor Life Insurance and Critical Illness Insurance distributed through the bank retail branches. Job Requirements LOMA Life Underwriting (386) or equivalent. LOMA Associate Customer Service. LOMA courses and/or designations. Degree/Diploma in Health Sciences or 5 years medical underwriting experience. Academy of Life Underwriting (ALU) courses and/or accreditations. English and French language skills (Verbal, Written, Reading). Other Qualifications, Skills and Experience Minimum 5 years medical underwriting and insurance experience or equivalent education. Superior verbal and written communication skills. Outstanding customer skills. Actively working on LOMA or ALU course or designation. Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills. Excellent computer skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
