Collaboration with Indigenous partners is central to how we plan and advance this work.Torngat Metals is seeking two qualified Community Relations and Indigenous Advisors to join our team in Newfoundland and Labrador. Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement & Partnerships, these roles will provide cultural, environmental, and socio-economic insight, community guidance, and strategic and logistical support to the Strange Lake Project. One position will focus on engagement with Labrador Inuit, and the other with the Innu of Labrador.These roles are essential in fostering respectful, long-term relationships and ensuring that Nunatsiavut and Innu knowledge, values, and perspectives are meaningfully integrated into the planning, decision-making, and development of the project. The positions will evolve with the project’s advancement into operations.Key responsibilities include supporting communications and consultation activities with community members, organizations, and rights-holders in the communities of Nain, Natuashish, Hopedale, Makkovik, Postville, Rigolet, and Sheshatshiu, as well as throughout central Labrador. Torngat Metals is committed to respectful collaboration, cultural integrity, and ongoing dialogue throughout all stages of the project.What You’ll Do:• Provide support and act as a liaison between the project team and Nunatsiavut and Innu people and organizations in Labrador.• Advise on customs, protocols, and appropriate engagement and consultation practices.• Facilitate coordination with community Elders, youth, hunters, fishers, land users, businesses, government officials, community leaders, and others who are interested or impacted.• Support the planning, communication, and organization of community meetings, engagement sessions, and cultural activities, including venue selection, catering, logistics, interpretation, and event follow-up.• Support and coordinate the translation of information materials and documents.• Actively participate in select meetings, site visits, and workshops; assist with agenda development, minute-taking, and the setup of meeting spaces and equipment.• Help integrate Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into communications and engagement across all phases of project planning.• Review project materials and social media content for cultural relevance and accuracy.• Assist in preparing and distributing documents for engagement activities, including presentations, reports, letters, and responses to formal and informal information requests.• Maintain record-keeping systems to support engagement tracking and reporting.• Monitor feedback in communities and advise on potential concerns and communications.• Advocate for community interests and promote transparent communication.What We’re Looking For:• Understanding of Innu-aimun and/or Inuttitut (culture and/or language).• Lived experience and a deep understanding of Nunatsiavut and Innu communities and people, particularly those living near and using the land proposed for the project’s road, port, and mine.• Strong relationships with Nunatsiavut and Innu organizations, leadership, and community members.• Knowledge of the landscape, community and organizational governance, and cultural activities and protocols in Nunatsiavut and Innu communities.• Five years of experience in community engagement, cultural advising, or a related field (an asset).• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.• Skilled in Microsoft 365 applications, social media management, and creating engaging content and presentations for diverse audiences.• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.• Fluency in English.• Ability to travel (approximately 25%), including visits to communities in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as to the Montreal office.Why You’ll Love It:• Competitive compensation with a bonus program.• Group RRSP with up to 5% employer contribution.• Flexible hours and a hybrid work schedule.• Generous benefits (health, dental, and vision).• Telemedicine.• Professional development and career advancement opportunities.Who We Are:Torngat Metals is a private company based in Canada advancing the Strange Lake rare earth project—one of the world’s most notable sources of heavy rare earth elements used in low-carbon and high-tech solutions.
