Position Summary

Thales requires an IT Network Infrastructure Engineer to be responsible for the infrastructure of the Thales’ National Digital Excellence Centre Canada (NDEC Canada) including the Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) and the Cyber Range. The CSOC is responsible for the detection and prevention of cyber security incidents by real-time monitoring and analysis of potential intrusions for its customers, and the Cyber Range is meant to provide a secured simulated representation of an organization where professionals and students can gain hands-on cyber skills and proceed to security posture testing.

As an IT Network Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring project work is executed, monitored, and controlled in terms of schedule, risk management, and quality of deliveries. As required, the Senior Systems Engineering Technologist may participate in various phases of engineering projects and project activities related to IT, OT, IoT including: network architecture, hardware requirements, software requirements, procurement, engineering and project risk management, integration tasks (i.e: installation, integration/configuration, testing/troubleshooting, maintenance, patch management, etc), lessons learned, and engineering close-out activities.

Key Areas of Responsibility

The expectations from the IT Network Infrastructure Engineer are as follows:

  • Network Infrastructure Management for the Cyber Range
    • Design, implement, and manage network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and VPN.
    • Configure and manage network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
    • Work in collaboration with Thales Network and Security team.
    • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure reliable connectivity.
    • Implement and enforce network security protocols and policies.
  • Server Management for the CSOC and the Cyber Range
    • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and security of servers.
    • Management of server hardware, including installation, configuration, and upgrades.
    • Ensure server backups and disaster recovery procedures are in place, tested, and effective.
    • Monitor server performance and optimize as necessary.
    • Maintain server room organization and inventory.
    • Support new integrations of various technologies into the Cyber Range infrastructure.
  • General IT Management
    • Develop and maintain documentation for IT infrastructure and procedures.
    • Manage IT projects, including planning, execution, and delivery.
    • Coordinate with vendors and service providers for procurement and support.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to staff as needed.
    • Stay updated with the latest technology trends and best practices in IT management.
  • Interaction with customers and partners on Cyber Range activities
    • Lead technical workshops to support the risk assessments activities (IT, OT, IoT).
    • Coordinate and support customer’s project team, site engineers, and management with project deliverables.
    • Support live Cyber training exercises and simulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Min 5 years of experience in IT management, with a focus on servers and network infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings and technical documents.
  • Hands-on experience in building, troubleshooting, integration and configuration, testing, cabling, and network electronics systems.
  • Experience in server and network monitoring.
  • Strong knowledge of server hardware and operating systems (Windows and Linux), experience with Virtualization systems (VMware, Hyper-V), and experience with cloud computing platforms (Google, AWS, Azure).

Special Position Requirements

Physical: Will involve work in the server room including cabling and hardware installation.

Schedule: 40 hrs/week. Overtime may be necessary depending on the demand and project schedule. Also, there is potential for On-Call support for infrastructure-related service incidents and follow internal management escalation procedures when necessary.
