Position Summary The RN / LPN Surgical Services Preadmission Clinic at False Creek Healthcare Centre performs comprehensive preadmission assessments to ensure patients are ready for scheduled surgical procedures. The RN interviews patients, reviews medical histories, identifies potential risks, coordinates and evaluates diagnostic testing and communicates findings to physicians and surgeons. The RN / LPN provides patient and family education on disease management, risk reduction, medications and health maintenance. Working collaboratively with the interprofessional care team the RN develops and updates individualized care plans, documents assessments accurately and contributes to quality improvement, clinical education and mentoring initiatives within the clinic. Coordinate required diagnostic tests, review results, identify abnormalities and report findings to physicians/surgeons. Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, develop nursing diagnoses and plan, perform and evaluate nursing interventions. Receive and prepare patients for testing ensuring comfort and understanding of procedures; perform non‑invasive diagnostic tests as required. Document assessments, interventions, outcomes and referrals accurately according to clinical standards. Assess learning needs of patients and families; provide education on risk reduction, medications, lifestyle adjustments and health maintenance. Collaborate with patients, families and the interprofessional care team to develop, implement and update individualized care plans. Participate in discharge planning, referral processes and coordination with community resources. Contribute to quality improvement, research and clinical program evaluation initiatives. Act as a preceptor or mentor for new staff and students; participate in professional development and continuing education programs. Participate in nursing committees, care conferences and councils providing feedback on policies, procedures and clinical tools. Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements Current registration in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of an accredited nursing education program combined with 2–3 years recent experience. Minimum 2 years of recent relevant clinical experience in surgical services, preadmission or related acute care areas is an asset. Completion of post‑graduate courses or certifications relevant to surgical services preferred. Clinical proficiency in patient assessment, diagnostic reasoning and nursing interventions. Strong communication, collaboration and patient advocacy skills. Competence in operating relevant medical and diagnostic equipment and electronic documentation systems. Ability to mentor, precept and educate patients, families and staff effectively. Physical ability to perform required duties.
