Job Summary:

Diversity Food Services is seeking a hands-on General Manager to lead food and beverage operations at Buffalo Stone Café and the new Buffalo Crossing event space inside FortWhyte Alive. This role requires a dynamic and motivated leader who is passionate about hospitality, team development, and sustainability. The General Manager will oversee daily operations, manage staff, coordinate banquets, handle ordering, and ensure exceptional guest experiences—all while being willing to jump in wherever needed, even if that means washing dishes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operations & Leadership:
    • Oversee all food and beverage operations at Buffalo Stone Café and Buffalo Crossing.
    • Lead and support a team, ensuring smooth daily operations and high service standards.
    • Work hands-on in all areas, including front-of-house, back-of-house, and event execution.
    • Develop and maintain a strong team culture focused on excellence and collaboration.
  2. Staff Management:
    • Hire, train, and schedule employees to ensure efficient service and labor cost control.
    • Provide coaching and mentorship to staff, fostering a positive work environment.
    • Ensure adherence to Diversity Food Services' standards and FortWhyte Alive's sustainability values.
    • Oversee and coordinate banquet services, ensuring flawless execution of events.
    • Work closely with clients, event planners, and the catering team to exceed guest expectations.
    • Manage setup, service, and breakdown of events, ensuring smooth operations.
    • Manage ordering and inventory control to optimize food and beverage costs.
    • Maintain budgets, control expenses, and monitor sales performance.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and food safety standards.
  3. Guest Experience & Service Excellence:
    • Uphold high standards of customer service, ensuring all guests have a memorable experience.
    • Address guest concerns with professionalism and efficiency.
    • Implement feedback to continuously improve service and offerings.

Requirements:

  1. Proven experience as a General Manager or similar leadership role in food and beverage operations.
  2. Strong leadership, team-building, and hands-on management skills.
  3. Experience with event coordination, banquets, and high-volume service.
  4. Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
  5. Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, ordering, and cost control.
  6. Must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle—may need to assist staff with deliveries within FortWhyte.
  7. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  8. Passion for sustainability, local food sourcing, and community engagement.
