The Project Engineering Manager will join the Engineering Management practice within the Technical Professional Organization (TPO) of Engineering Services Canada. The Project Engineering Manager will play a lead role in the delivery of Engineering Services on large and complex projects (generally Class 3 & 4 projects) while also supporting the growth of the Engineering Management practice.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, Engineering Management Practice, the Project Engineering Manager will contribute to the development of the team's strategy and oversee/ensure the successful execution of the engineering design of large, multi-disciplinary projects from inception to completion. In addition, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Project Delivery, Technical TPO, and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet and exceed client expectations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, exceptional technical expertise, multi-disciplinary engineering experience, and a proven track record of managing engineering of large-scale projects.

Your role within the team:

Engineering Planning and Execution:

  1. Collaborate with Win Work and Market Lead to define proposal timelines, deliverables and efforts, ensuring alignment with client requirements and overall business objectives.
  2. Collaborate with Project Delivery to define project goals, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client requirements and overall business objectives.
  3. Oversee the engineering project lifecycle, including design, development, testing, and implementation, while managing resources effectively.
  4. Oversee the Project Design Execution Plan.
  5. Oversee the inter-disciplinary technical coordination.
  6. Review contract documents to ensure all deliverables and obligations associated with the scope of work are fully understood and identified.
  7. Review work hour estimate for the project and ensure budget and schedule are adhered to.
  8. Monitor project progress, identify and mitigate risks, and resolve any issues or bottlenecks that may impact project timelines or quality.

Technical Expertise and Quality Assurance:

  1. Provide technical guidance and expertise to the engineering team, ensuring the use of industry best practices and standards.
  2. Conduct regular reviews and quality assessments of engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with project requirements, specifications, and quality standards.
  3. Promote a Value Engineering culture throughout the project life cycle.
  4. Promote continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes, methodologies, and tools, driving efficiency and productivity.
  5. Actively act in the role of Engineering Manager on a major project.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  1. Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, architects, vendors, contractors, and regulatory authorities, to ensure project success.
  2. Engage in effective communication, providing regular engineering updates, addressing concerns, and managing expectations to foster strong client relationships.
  3. Actively participate in meetings, presentations, and technical discussions, representing the engineering team and providing expert insights and recommendations.
    1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related field with 20+ years of experience in a relevant field. Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering management, overseeing complex engineering projects and leading multidisciplinary teams.
    2. Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire, unify and motivate team members to achieve project goals.
    3. Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
    4. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences (both French and English are an asset).
    5. Familiarity with relevant engineering software, tools, and technologies.
