What does your day look like as a Garden Centre Manager?
  1. Lead, coach, manage, and mentor your team
  2. Strategically procure and order inventory including plant material, soils, fertilizers, tools, etc. - anticipating needs for future products
  3. Provide advice and expertise in horticulture and gardening to our team and clients
  4. Merchandise inventory and create beautiful product displays
  5. Manage overall retail store, labour, and budget
  6. Implement new and exciting marketing or event ideas

Here at the Caledonia Garden Centre, the manager oversees all the daily operations of the retail garden center. These responsibilities include supervising the staff, managing the budget, encouraging retail sales and upselling, and keeping a new and fresh inventory. Other common duties revolve around the maintenance of the inventory, which often includes weeding, pruning, and watering.

What do we need from you?
  1. Ability to exceed expectations for all five of our core values
  2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a customer service role
  3. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Garden Centre managerial role
  4. Strong leadership qualities with ability to develop and maintain a dynamic team
  5. Strong communication and customer service skills
  6. Strong financial acumen
  7. Understands sales skills and comfortable training your team on this
  8. Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  9. Flexible availability including weekends and holidays during our busy seasons
  10. A passion for the landscaping and horticulture industry
  11. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds repetitively and work in all weather conditions
  12. Proficient with POS systems, accounting software, and calendar programs
Additional assets that you may have:
  1. Ability to operate skid steer, or willingness to learn through our in-house training program
  2. Knowledge on differing soil types, fertilizers/pesticides, and overall pest management
Main Responsibilities Include: Managing Staff

A significant part of a Garden Centre Manager’s role is to manage and lead the staff. This includes hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating employees to ensure that the garden centre operates smoothly and efficiently.

Inventory Management

The Garden Centre Manager is responsible for maintaining inventory levels. This involves ordering plants, gardening supplies, and other products, ensuring that stock levels are adequate to meet customer demand without overstocking.

Customer Service

Providing excellent customer service is crucial in this role. The Garden Centre Manager needs to ensure that customers have a positive shopping experience, addressing any queries or complaints promptly and effectively is a priority and the mainstay of the business.

Sales and Marketing

Developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies is key to attracting customers and driving sales. This can include organizing promotional events, managing social media accounts, and creating attractive displays.

Financial Management

Managing the financial aspects of the garden centre, such as budgeting, sales forecasting, and financial reporting, is another important responsibility. The Garden Centre Manager needs to ensure the business is working towards a profitable outcome.

Please note that this role is a seasonal position at this time working for approximately 10 months of the year at a full-time capacity currently. Perfect for you if you love travelling in the winter to somewhere warm or like winter activities
