Job Description

Job Title: Marine Detail Designer - Electrical
Location: Halifax, NS
Reports To: Team Lead

The focus of this role will be within the layouts discipline of outfit spatial detail design engineering.

Electrical Spatial Integration:
  • Knowledge of general / HV / telecoms system arrangements
  • Knowledge of electrical installation common practices
  • Understand cable segregation requirements for complex system sensitive integration
  • Competent understanding of safe working practices for electrical installations
  • Competent understanding of cabling requirements for electrical equipment
  • Ability to read / analyse baseline electrical documentation
Principle Responsibilities:Customer
  • Interacts with customer technical focal points as required
  • Be able to interact well with both internal and external stakeholders and communicate technical issues; propose solutions for features which do not meet the requirements etc.
  • Supporting team leader to define approach, timescales and hours associated with tasks
Delivery
  • On-Time, On-Budget delivery in accordance with customer quotations
  • Adherence to the Belcan QMS
P&L
  • Identify cost savings (internal & customer)
  • Identify change
  • Manages change and can articulate its occurrence
Resource/Capability
  • Responsible for technical quality of personal output
  • Helps support other team members as directed by Team Leader/Management
  • Helps support Team Leader/Management with aspects such as capability development, QMS related quality issues etc.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • Must be degree qualified. However, other qualifications and experience will be considered.
  • Ideally has previous experience in marine engineering and a defence related industry OR in a complex engineering domain such as Automotive, Aerospace, Transportation, Energy etc.
  • Must be highly proficient in the use of the appropriate tools and techniques that will be used by his/her team (e.g. Windchill, Foran, etc…).
  • Must be a highly capable communicator both written and spoken.
  • Must be an excellent team player with a tenacious and resilient attitude to drive the interface with the customer and the various engineering and support functions of the business.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting responses in assigned areas to operational units or other activities.
  • Appreciates and can articulate the value of the engineering lifecycle and the relationship to the Lifecycle Management Process. Support and participate in technical reviews to ensure product viability.
  • Understand the importance of Health and Safety requirements and can articulate the need to ensure that the product is acceptably safe and that product and system safety assessments form part of the design process.
  • Must have an understanding of regulatory and statutory requirements of the product.
  • Has an appreciation of the requirement that the environmental impact of our activities is sustainable in the long term.
  • Appreciates the need for a supportability engineering process to sustain the long term viability of the business. Understands that supportability goes beyond basic design, maintenance and operability requirements.
Key Outputs/Deliverables
  • Production of 3D integrated CAD models and associated production output drawings that deliver the engineering design intent
  • Produce, where required, engineering evidence to back detail design decisions in the form of technical reports, specifications and studies
  • Clear evidence of personal tracking of own quality and cost performance
