This role requires flexibility. While much of the planning and coordination occurs on weekdays, our activities primarily happen on weekends.Location: Various areas across the Greater Victoria region in BC and virtual. Successful applicants must live or intend to live in the Greater Victoria region.Salary: $55,000 per annumTerm: Full‑time position, ideal start date as soon as possibleExpected in‑person/virtual work ratio: Around 20‑25% in‑person & 75‑80% virtualDeadline to apply: This unique role requires a special blend of skills and passion. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until we find the right person.Key ResponsibilitiesTo more fully understand what this position entails, check out our GVGT activity summaries.Activity Leadership & Community Engagement (90%)Activity Planning & Execution:Plan 65+ environmental stewardship activitiesLead about 50 stewardship activities with or without additional staffDeliver engaging environmental education and hands‑on instructionFoster a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment for all participantsSupervise large groups of community members to ensure safety and qualityConduct site visits to assess safety and suitabilityPurchase and transport necessary tools, supplies and refreshmentsManage and organize tool inventory and storage unitSet up and pack up activity sites safely and efficientlyImplement safety protocols (e.g. providing safety glasses, adhering to policies, safely disposing of needles with waste pickers and providing first aid when needed etc.)Capture 50+ high quality photos and 2+ videos per activityCollect and track participation and environmental impact dataAdminister and assess participant satisfaction surveysMaintain accurate records in Salesforce for all program activitiesDocument activity site transformation with before/after documentationWrite personalized volunteer lettersRespond promptly and professionally to participant inquiriesDesign, develop and implement new activitiesImprove current activitiesSupervise staff who will help with leading and supporting activitiesOutreach & Visibility:Implement strategic and creative outreach to attract diverse participantsBuild outreach databaseCreate engaging content for and manage social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok)Write compelling activity reports (blogs) within 32 hours of each eventServe as a media spokesperson and distribute press releasesRespond to participant inquiries promptly and professionallyContribute activity content to newsletters, social media, and other communicationsDesign signage to enhance activitiesPartnerships:Coordinate activity logistics with partnersEnsure partner recognition during activities and in communicationsMaintain strong relationships with partners through regular communicationCommunicate with staff to ensure partner needs are metSupport staff in creating partnership proposals and pitching themPrepare impact reports and timely invoicesSecure in‑kind contributionsAdministration and other tasks (about 10%)Create and maintain daily task lists, timesheet and timely expense reportsParticipate in staff check‑ins, address capacity challenges and prioritize effortsContribute insights to organizational policies and processesSupport broader revenue generation, including grants and individual donor initiativesBuild and improve training materials for running activitiesAssess and contribute to improving evaluation systems/processes and integrating them into GTC’s database management system (Salesforce)Support with the hiring and training of other staff as neededPerform other related duties as required by supervising staffSkills & QualificationsPost‑secondary education in a related field (e.g., environmental science, education, communications, event planning)Three years of experience in community organizing or event planningEnergized by interacting and networking with new peopleStrong organizational, project, and time management skillsDigitally savvy with a variety of social media platformsDemonstrated ability to speak in front of groups and lead/teach diverse community membersAbility to assess program effectiveness using both quantitative data (e.g., number of community members engaged, amount of invasive plants removed) and qualitative data (e.g., impact stories)Experience using online/virtual tools and apps (e.g., G‑Suite, Excel, Zoom, Salesforce, Canva)Ability to build and sustain timely, effective, and professional interpersonal relationshipsActively seeks growth, welcomes feedback, and turns challenges into learning opportunitiesAbility to take constructive feedback and use it as an opportunity for growthOutgoing and able to connect easily with people and make them feel welcome and heardTakes initiative, solves problems, and does not wait to be told what to doThrives working independently while also lifting up those around youBold and unafraid to try new thingsAble to think and act quickly in changing situationsA Note Before You ApplyWe’re a small, mission‑driven charity that puts a lot of time and care into recruitment, training and supporting our team and we want that investment to be meaningful for both you and us.We need people who meet the requirements listed and are excited about both the community connection and environmental action elements of our work, and all that goes into it on‑the‑ground and behind‑the‑scenes.If you’re unsure if a role is right for you, please take a moment to reflect before applying.
