Alberta Innovates (AI) is seeking an Executive Director of Advanced Hydrocarbons to be responsible for the development and execution of Advanced Hydrocarbons programs, projects, and operations to support the realization of the broader department and organizational strategic priorities, identifying and driving innovative opportunities, and building and leveraging strong stakeholder relations to enable the achievement of desired outcomes.

Are you our Executive Director of Advanced Hydrocarbons? You would be a good fit for this position if you:

  • Have experience in overseeing strategic planning, advocacy, and thought leadership in the hydrocarbon industry.
  • Possess a strong drive for innovation, collaboration with external partners, and securing funding for key projects.
  • Demonstrate expertise in managing budgets, establishing protocols, and building internal relationships for successful project implementation.
    • Manages the Advanced Hydrocarbons portfolio which currently includes initiatives in Recovery Technologies, Methane Emissions Reduction, Digital Oilfield, Partial Upgrading, and Bitumen Beyond Combustion.
    • Oversees the development and implementation of Advanced Hydrocarbons short and long term plans and strategies, developing goals, performance measures, and implementation tactics.
    • Ensures management and administrative processes, standards and protocols are established to support Clean Technology project/program development and implementation.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering or Science.
      • Master’s degree or above in Engineering or Science, or MBA is an asset.
    • Minimum 15 years broad based technical, operations and business management experience.
    • 5 to 10 years progressive management experience
      • Experience working within an innovation environment that requires balancing scientific, technical, marketing, and business development components preferred.
    • Strategic planning and priority management skills.
    • Technical and business evaluation skills for innovation project and program opportunities.
