This role is a blend of hands-on shop work and independent field service, supporting everything from earthmoving equipment to roadbuilding and utility installation machinery.If you take pride in clean diagnostics, quality repairs, and helping keep major civil projects moving — you’ll fit right in.Why Mechanics Like This RoleA mix of shop and field work — never repetitive or boringWork on a wide range of heavy civil equipment (excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, etc.)Respect and autonomy — we know strong mechanics don’t need micromanagingYour expertise directly keeps crews productive and projects on scheduleYou’ll be trusted to troubleshoot, diagnose, and make the call on repairsIf you’re tired of rushed jobs, bandaid fixes, or shops that don’t value technicians — this is a better fit.What You’ll DoHands-On Equipment RepairDiagnose and repair heavy civil construction equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, backhoes, and dump trucksPerform preventative maintenance, inspections, lubrication, and adjustmentsRebuild or replace major components: engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, final drivesUse modern diagnostic tools for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systemsTest, calibrate, and verify equipment after repairsField Service WorkRespond to breakdowns on active job sites and perform repairs independentlyCoordinate with the Fleet Manager and site supervisors on prioritiesMaintain accurate service reports, records, and parts documentationPlan repairs efficiently to minimize equipment downtimeSafety & StandardsFollow Harbour Construction safety policies and safe work proceduresConduct hazard assessments before field workKeep tools, vehicles, and workspaces organized and compliantReport hazards, issues, or near misses promptlyTeam CollaborationCommunicate clearly with operators, foremen, and supervisors about repairsMentor apprentices or junior technicians when neededSupport continuous improvement in maintenance and field service practicesWhat You Bring5+ years’ experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic / Heavy Equipment TechnicianJourneyperson (Red Seal) preferredStrong diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systemsAbility to work independently in both shop and field settingsValid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean recordA reputation for reliability, professionalism, and quality workIf people say, “You’re the one I call when equipment really needs fixing,” you’re the type of mechanic we’re looking for.HoursMonday–Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Overtime, weekend work, and field service calls may be required depending on project needs.Ready to Apply?If you’re a Heavy Duty Mechanic who values doing the job right and being part of a team that respects your craft, we’d love to hear from you.
