Addictions workers provide individual and group counselling, brief assessments, and treatment planning to persons with substance use concerns. Addictions workers operative within a multidisciplinary team on an inpatient addictions treatment unit.Position ResponsibilitiesWorking with nursing in ensuring that admission and discharge procedures, including search of clothing and personal effects, are carried out according to Ontario provincial standards for Withdrawal Management Services.Provide individual and group care, including but not limited to crisis management, counseling, and referral to local and provincial agencies.Works in collaboration and consultation with our medical staff and other members of the inter-professional health care team to meet the needs of our clients.Facilitates adherence to a daily programming schedule for patients admitted to the inpatient addictions program.Document assessments, intervention plans, progress notes and outcomes in a timely manner.Practice from a harm reduction approach and provide health teaching to clients, families and/or significant others on typical recovery and lifestyle issues throughout all stages of recovery.Participate in program development at the local and regional level.Capture relevant and required data as defined by the Ontario Health, HQO, Accreditation or other quality improvement strategies.Align improvement projects with the organization and monitor or adjust to achieve greater outcomes.Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the workplace.Evaluate services and satisfaction on an on-going basis and formulate improvement strategies and solutions.Maintains good relationships with staff and residents; encourages support and care between residents; relates in a non-judgmental, caring, inclusive and welcoming way with residents.Perform other duties as required.Position RequirementsPost-secondary degree or diploma in social services and/or related field.Registered and in good standing with relevant college.Minimum of 2 years’ experience and knowledge of addictions related care (i.e. withdrawal symptoms, withdrawal management and medication treatment available).Experience in providing programs to individual and group settings.Experience in program development and education.Demonstrated health care knowledge of substance use disorders.Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practices of recovery principles and trauma informed care.Demonstrated knowledge of how to apply harm reduction approach to recovery.Understanding and knowledge of the recovery-oriented approach.Demonstrated experience dealing with clients who have poor distress tolerance and emotion regulation challenges.Demonstrated ability to work with digital technology.Demonstrated critical thinking skills.Effective time management and ability to prioritize workload.Those who do not meet the language requirements of this posting are invited to submit their résumé for future consideration.Must possess the ability to provide effective services to clients/patients in both English and French.
