The New Westminster Police Department is looking for students, aged 16-18, with a desire to learn about a career in policing to participate in our Student Police Academy. This week-long program is designed to provide students with an unforgettable and educational experience in law enforcement. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands‑on activities, learn from experienced professionals, and develop valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom. This program is ideal for students who are looking to expand their knowledge and get a behind‑the‑scenes look at all aspects of policing. From physical conditioning and self‑defense tactics to scenario‑based simulations and firearm safety, you will receive the most up‑to‑date police training. This is your opportunity to see what it takes to be a police officer. What you bring to this experience Professionalism: You’ll conduct yourself professionally and appropriately both at work and in your personal life Ethical Accountability & Responsibility: You’ll take responsibility for your actions and your contribution to a positive workplace culture Integrity: You’ll be honest and truthful while realizing the goal of each investigation is to discover truth rather than eliminating doubt Service: You’ll lead by example and willingly assist the most marginalized of all populations Endurance: You’ll make efforts to ensure you are mentally and physically prepared for the challenges policing may bring What you bring to this program You will meet the following eligibility requirements: You are a student in grade 10, 11, 12 You are between the ages of 16-18 You are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident You have a desire to learn about a career in policing You want to expand your knowledge around law enforcement You are motivated, compassionate and empathetic with a genuine desire to help others You are committed to attending the program for the entire week You support and promote a diverse, inclusive, and healthy environment What we can offer you An exciting and challenging one‑week program An opportunity to expand your knowledge and experience in policing Insightful and educational sessions Physical fitness training Experience live demonstrations, simulations, and equipment displays to understand the tools of the trade Develop leadership skills and foster a sense of camaraderie through team‑building activities Receive a Certificate of Completion to showcase your participation and commitment to the program What we can accomplish together Spending your time learning within a police department and other law enforcement training facilities will be an opportunity like no other.
