Senior Project Manager, Major Capital Wastewater

Hours of work: 35 Hours per week

Reports to: Manager, Capital Water Wastewater Collection and Conveyance.

What you will do in this role:

  • Manage large complex capital projects (budgets typically greater than $10 million/project) involving Pumping Stations and Large Diameter Trunk Sanitary Sewers.
  • Manage the selection and procurement process for major equipment and assessment of new technologies.
  • Define project objectives, scope of work, key stakeholders, roles and responsibilities, key deliverables, design approach, detailed requirements, proposed stages and schedules.
  • Identify project risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare terms of reference, tender documents for contracts, requests for proposals and evaluate detailed proposals.
  • Negotiate with public utilities, conservation authorities, local municipal representatives, provincial and federal agencies to secure required permits and approvals.
  • Negotiate project changes in scope and related extras to minimize Peel’s financial risk while maintaining the quality and schedule of the project.
  • Regularly maintain and enhance knowledge on emerging issues, new technology, changing standards, codes and regulations, internal policy and procedure changes, and innovative products, services and practices.
    • Undergraduate Degree in Civil Engineering.
    • 5 years of direct work experience planning, designing and constructing municipal infrastructure including wastewater pumping stations, and large diameter trunk sanitary sewers; li>
    • Thorough knowledge of wastewater design practices, and related codes and standards, regulations, safety acts, tendering/contract process and contract administration a must.
    • Strong negotiating, planning, scheduling and project management skills.
    • Demonstrated financial experience to prepare cost estimates and manage budgets.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Project and Outlook.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Highly effective interpersonal skills to negotiate and resolve emerging conflicts with staff, contractors, suppliers, residents, councillors and other stakeholders.
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills including report writing and facilitation of working groups.
    • Ability to present project updates to a variety of stakeholders.
    • Diplomatic, tactful and strong time management skills.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.

    Nice to have:

    • Professional Engineer license in Ontario (P. Eng) is an asset.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset.
