About the Opportunity

Reporting to and in collaboration with the Health Services Manager (HSM) and Medical Directors, the Team Leader (TL) will lead the daily front-line operations at the IWK Health Sciences site in the delivery of extracorporeal circulation and cardiopulmonary support. The TL will provide leadership in program development and education to support the perfusion program and ECMO program at the IWK site. The TL participates in the planning and provision of care and identifies issues that have potential or actual impact on patient care. Further, the TL will provide perfusion services at the Halifax Infirmary site as required in order to support case load and maintain competency. He/she ensures that the HSM is aware and up-to-date on any significant events and participates in the care of patients within the unit and hospital. This individual also acts as a role model and patient care advocate and exhibits team building and leadership skills.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion, or Canadian certification eligible (with a requirement to obtain this certification within the first two years of employment)
  • Minimum of two years full-time experience as a Pediatric Perfusionist in a major cardiac centre
  • Experience in Pediatric ECMO and ventricular assist
  • Computer skills, and knowledge of data management
  • Knowledge of congenital heart disease
  • Previous involvement in out-of-hospital transportation of pediatric ECMO patients is an asset
  • Possession of a recognized degree in a science or health care discipline an asset
  • Previous management experience is an asset
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Must maintain an ongoing knowledge of new equipment, technologies, and procedures
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-directed and adept at problem solving while working with minimal supervision

  • Strong organizational skills that demonstrate the ability to prioritize upon short notice while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
  • Well-developed decision making, analytical, interpretation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of self-development in ensuring current and competent service
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in research and quality assurance development
  • Understanding of NSHA policies and organizational structure
  • Conflict management skills and knowledge of appropriate resources
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • 2-year, Full-time Long Assignment / 75 Hours Bi-weekly

Compensation and Benefits

$50.11 - $58.94 Hourly

$61.00 hourly for 25 years of service
