Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Spire Full time

We are looking for a proactive Senior Program Manager with experience of major and strategic account management, ideally within the space sector; building close relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver operational excellence and maximize potential for repeat orders.

What You'll Do:

Through Spire Space Services, customers build and operate their own satellite constellations on top of Spire's proven satellite, ground, and web infrastructure. In your role, you will be instrumental in our customers' success, managing the execution of the deployment of their applications to space.

Reporting to the Director of Programs for Space Services (3S), you are responsible for leading, managing and delivering a major space services project for a strategically important customer.

  • Serve as the customer's primary point of contact and ensure suitable standards, processes and controls are followed across all phases of the project. Drive and influence performance to ensure quality, scope, commercial, schedule and financial objectives are exceeded. Ensure full customer satisfaction throughout.
  • Lead and provide strategic direction to the project team to deliver a highly reliable and robust mission solution.
  • Lead development and maintenance of comprehensive project plans to enable appropriate resourcing, execution, monitoring and control for effective project delivery.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and communications across internal and external parties.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company, with an ability to liaise with senior government officials.
  • Build collaborative, trusted relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Analyze project performance to capture risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies. Lead the resolution of uncertainty, providing leadership and direction to retire risks and resolve issues as early as practicable.
  • Develop high-level knowledge of Spire satellite, payload, and operations systems to assist customers during the development of their service with Spire, escalating to and working with Spire technical teams and subject matter experts as required.
  • Demonstrate sound business judgement, commercial acumen and ability to solve complex problems.
  • Utilize negotiating and influencing skills, establishing and maintaining relationships that promote a successful project outcome.

Who You Are:

You are a highly experienced program manager with a proven track record of delivering complex hardware engineering projects, ideally within the space sector. You have successfully led cross-functional teams through the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical hardware systems. Your expertise extends to navigating intricate supply chains, managing technical risks, and ensuring seamless integration of complex engineering components. You thrive in high-stakes environments, balancing technical, commercial, and operational priorities while maintaining strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners. Your ability to drive execution, mitigate risks, and align diverse stakeholders makes you a trusted leader capable of delivering high-reliability solutions in the aerospace and space technology industries.

Key Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or applicable field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven track record in delivering major projects with a focus on quality-critical requirements and significant experience in delivering complex projects.
  • Experience with implementing an Integrated Project Team, inclusive of in-country manufacturing and supply-chain sourcing. Demonstrated success in developing high-performing teams and uplifting capabilities.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to apply critical and strategic thinking to shape solutions out of complexity.
  • Skilled at navigating complexity and ambiguity to make effective commercial and financial decisions.
  • Experience interfacing and negotiating directly with strategic customers.
  • Effective leadership with strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead in diverse, international, and complex environments with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to win the confidence of highly skilled engineers and executive staff alike, building consensus as required.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Strong English language verbal and written communications.
  • Direct experience in design and development and/or project management of space flight missions, including product assurance methodology.
  • Familiarity with international standards, and delivering government space programs at class B risk or higher.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) / PRINCE II certification or equivalent (e.g. IPMA).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft products, including MS Project.

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.

Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses—this is not something candidates need to have before applying.
