Ministry Focus Managing transportation safety. Supporting municipalities with public transportation and water/wastewater facilities. Expanding and enhancing a well-integrated transportation system and enabling market access. Preserving and developing the provincial highway network and water management infrastructure. Reporting to the Manager, Policy and Program Development, the Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for leading and coordinating the development and implementation of multiple transportation engagement and policy initiatives that will impact the long‑term and future direction of the transportation system in Alberta. This includes developing and deploying innovative projects such as process improvements, transportation safety programs, regulatory reviews, and operational policy projects. Responsibilities Project Management and Coordination – Design, lead, and support stakeholder activities, projects and events that influence the evolution of the transportation system, including demographic, policy, legislative, and economic analysis. Policy Analysis & Advice – Lead the research and development of new policy proposals and actions; analyze implications of options, outcomes, and the impact on Albertans; identify potential risks and propose strategies to manage/mitigate identified risk; and plan for the implementation of policy decisions. This analysis may include consideration of the structure, funding, and operation of programs and/or services. Engagement, Consultation and Facilitation – Lead the identification, research, and development of engagement plans and activities; identify potential risks and propose strategies to manage/mitigate identified risk; plan for the implementation of engagement; execute engagements including facilitating discussions with stakeholders. Required Qualifications University degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration or related, PLUS 4 years related experience or equivalent as described. Equivalency Requirements Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. Examples Related 1 year certificate PLUS a minimum 7 years of experience. Related 2-year diploma PLUS a minimum 6 years of experience. Related minimum 8 years of experience. The successful candidate MUST also have: Highly proficient in using Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Current knowledge of the transportation system in Alberta, as well as familiarity with issues affecting drivers and stakeholders. Knowledge of transportation legislation, regulation, and policy. Strong understanding of the theory and practice of policy analysis, including complex, policy and program development process, policy planning and options development and decision‑making processes within government. Understanding of theory and practice of problem‑solving and analytical techniques. Strong understanding of the theory and practice of engagement/consultation, including stakeholder engagement development process, engagement planning, analyzing results, and decision‑making processes within government. Assets Experience working on policy packages for Cabinet approval. Experience working with related transportation industry representatives. Experience working with key ministry partners including SARTR, PSES, Justice and Technology and Innovation. Experience in facilitation discussions on complex issues with various stakeholders. Knowledge of contract development and management. Knowledge and proficiency in survey tools, such as Opinio or SurveyMonkey. Knowledge of Adobe Professional tools, including Adobe Acrobat Pro.
