Job Overview :

The Director of Special Projects will be responsible for leading, managing, and executing specialized construction projects across the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional sectors. As part of an established ICI general contracting firm, the Director will oversee diverse and complex projects that require a high level of strategic planning, coordination, and innovation. This individual will work closely with senior leadership, project teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure the successful delivery of projects on time, within scope, and on budget.

Key Responsibilities :

  1. Lead the planning, execution, and completion of special projects from inception to closeout.
  2. Develop and implement project strategies that align with organizational goals and client needs.
  3. Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to deadlines and quality standards.
  4. Manage and mitigate risks, ensuring proactive problem-solving approaches.

Client Relations :

  1. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on special projects.
  2. Foster strong client relationships through clear communication, expectation management, and regular progress updates.
  3. Identify opportunities for new business and develop strategies to enhance client satisfaction and retention.

Team Management :

  1. Provide leadership and direction to project managers, site supervisors, and project teams.
  2. Mentor, coach, and develop team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.
  3. Ensure effective collaboration and communication across departments and with external partners.

Budget & Financial Oversight :

  1. Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring financial objectives are met.
  2. Work closely with the finance team to forecast project costs, monitor expenditures, and ensure profitability.
  3. Analyze project financial reports and make adjustments to optimize project performance.

Compliance & Quality Control :

  1. Ensure all projects comply with relevant safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards.
  2. Implement rigorous quality control processes to ensure work is delivered to the highest standard.
  3. Monitor project progress and conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with scope, schedule, and cost.

Innovation & Process Improvement :

  1. Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation within project management and delivery.
  2. Stay informed of industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve project outcomes.
  3. Implement sustainable and environmentally responsible practices where applicable.

Qualifications :

  1. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  2. A minimum of 10 years of experience in construction project management, with a focus on ICI projects.
  3. Proven leadership experience in managing large-scale or complex projects.
  4. Strong knowledge of construction processes, regulations, and safety standards in the ICI sector.
  5. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project) and budgeting tools.
  8. PMP certification or equivalent is an asset.
  9. Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset.
  10. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  11. Ability to foster teamwork and collaborate effectively.
  12. Adept at building relationships with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
