Academy Finance Manager

THE LOCATION
Sparwood is a stable community of 4,100 in the beautiful Elk Valley, approximately 1.5 hours from Cranbrook, BC, and 2.5 hours from Calgary.

THE ROLE
We are searching for an experienced Director of Finance. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and plays a key role in the strategic direction of the municipality.

THE DUTIES
The Director is responsible for the overall direction of all finance and information technology functions of the District, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, investing, revenue collections, property taxation, payroll, expenditure control, and information technology. The salary range for this position is between $120,000 and $137,000.

THE QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
The ideal candidate will have:

1. Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation
2. Five years’ direct experience with finance administration
3. Local Government finance experience
4. Expert experience with budget preparation and variance reporting
5. Excellent knowledge of human resources activities, including an understanding of labour standards, compensation, administration policies, and benefits management
6. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing to Council, other departments, and members of the public
