Job Description:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance, the Manager, Financial Reporting is a key leader responsible for leading the Commercial Accounting team of Sinai Health and assisting with other areas within Financial Reporting for the Hospital. The Manager supports the achievement of the organization's objectives through oversight of internal and external financial reporting, internal controls, and process improvement.
This Manager is accountable for the delivery of timely and accurate financial information and financial statements in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards ("PSAS") or Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises ("ASPE"), meeting Ministry of Health ("MOH") and Canada Revenue Agency ("CRA") reporting requirements, and maintaining governance over the Hospital's financial systems. This position also plays a supporting role in coordinating and overseeing the year-end audit process, budgeting and forecasting, and strategic decision making.

In this role you will:
- Manage and coordinate all activities of the Commercial Accounting team, including oversight of period-end close, review and approval of internal and external reports.
- Assist with Sinai Health's external financial reports (annual report, audited financial statements, reports to granting agencies and other external institutions, and Ministry reporting).
- Assist with coordinating the interim and year-end external audit process by communicating with the external auditors, providing all required support and coordinating with other internal departments (i.e. Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, IT, People & Culture).
- Lead the development and establishment of internal controls for the commercial businesses, spanning all areas of finance operations, to support the achievement of Sinai Health's objectives.
- Maintain general ledger structure and design, liaise with the information management team to automate processes and management reports.
- Lead cash flow forecasts to identify potential requirements for borrowing or other risks related to the organization's cash flow.
- Manage cash and equivalents and required borrowing and/or investments using established cash management policies.
- Overall responsibility for commercial business tax reporting, including review and coordination of the annual tax returns for commercial businesses, other taxation filings due to CRA and maintenance of CRA account access for different users.
- Lead the design and execution of special projects which may include, but are not limited to, internal controls, process redesign, and other projects as assigned.
- Provide strong leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the Commercial Accounting team.
- Foster a culture of business partnering across the organization.
Job Requirements:
Mandatory:
- Successful completion of a Business or Commerce degree from a recognized educational institution.
- CA, CPA designation and an active member in good standing of CPAO.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience managing staff and team building in a Financial Accounting & Reporting environment.
- Applicants with proven equivalent recent and related training and experience may be considered.
Preferred:
- Hospital/health care/public sector experience is an asset.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), financial applications (SAP preferred), and database tools.
- Working knowledge in PSAS, Canadian GAAP, IFRS, and taxation.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal) with effective group presentation and stakeholder engagement abilities; proven ability to present information to all levels including senior management.
- Experience converting complex data into clear and concise information for clients with varying degrees of financial knowledge.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing internal controls.
- Strong technical and analytical expertise with the ability to provide solid accounting advice/direction to other staff members and clients.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, multitask and function independently in a fast-paced environment where priorities and tasks are often subject to change.
- Possesses a high level of accountability and proven capability to identify opportunities, take initiative and think through future implications.
- Recognized ability to proactively identify issues and generate solutions by critically assessing procedures and challenging the status quo.
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to effectively lead and manage meetings.
- Proven experience achieving and inspiring ongoing process improvement and the achievement of performance targets.
- Experience working in a team-oriented collaborative environment, with a focus on strong customer service skills and team building and development.
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history.
