Your Opportunity Calling all Marine Mammal Biologists and Underwater Acousticians Stantec is seeking to build a pool of talented professional biologists, scientists, and engineers to support our growing marine mammal science program. Do you want to be part of a talented team that partners with clients to successfully meet environmental and regulatory requirements to deliver large marine projects in an environmentally responsible manner? Project field needs include opportunities to see incredible wildlife while working in remote and challenging areas. The programs you support will provide important information for assessing the potential effects of anthropogenic projects on marine life and will contribute to the scientific understanding of marine mammals in British Columbia. Looking for all levels: Junior (< 3 years), Intermediate (3–9 years), and Senior (10+ years). Your Capabilities and Credentials Marine Mammal Field Technician Technical degree or diploma in environmental science, biological sciences, or site investigation. General knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies. Comfortable with living and working on a marine vessel in close quarters, in remote locations, and for 2–3 weeks at a time. Must be a team player with a proactive and open‑minded attitude. Marine Mammal Field Crew Lead Minimum bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, science, biology, forestry, or a related field. General knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies. Experience in the collection of biological and physical field data. Experience on marine mammal programs or prior work on vessels is an asset. Must be a good communicator, leader, and problem‑solver with a positive attitude. Comfortable with living on and directing a small team on a marine vessel in close quarters, in remote locations, and for 2–3 weeks at a time. Intermediate and Senior Marine Mammal Biologists Minimum bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, biology, science, forestry, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience or a combination of education and experience. Knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies. Ideal candidates will have experience in distance line transect sampling (design, implementation, and analysis), underwater acoustics, and marine mammal studies or monitoring. Field work may include remote locations and exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
