Our Project Delivery Department is seeking a Senior Project Engineer who will work with a team of internal and external professional engineers, scientists, and support staff, on delivery of complex water intake, tunneling, and water treatment plant projects.

You have a demonstrated track record in the design and construction of heavy civil infrastructure projects, with specific experience in water treatment piloting and treatment plant design, water intakes, tunnels and project management. Your attention to detail, patience, diplomacy, and ability to get the job done are key assets required to be successful in this job. Your experience includes: direct management of consultants and contractors; Familiarity with the provincial and federal regulatory environment is an asset.

The Senior Project Engineer reports to the Project Manager - Coquitlam Water Supply.

This role:

  • Performs complex and varied engineering and project management work that may involve project design and management for large projects. li>
  • Responsible for overall project budgets and monitors and controls costs ensuring the effective and efficient expenditure of allocated funds. Participates in short and long range planning.
  • Makes decisions and provides recommendations on a variety of issues with broad policies and mandates as guidelines. li>
  • Prepares and reviews project designs, technical reports and contract specifications for consulting services, equipment and construction. Acts as Metro Vancouver’s appointed representative in assigned matters of project and contract obligations including project initiatives, site inspections, and determination of regulatory requirements. May be required to negotiate significant technical or financial interest on behalf of Metro Vancouver.
  • Sound technical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and their application in relevant discipline. li>
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering and technical guidelines and principles related to area of specialization such as technical manuals, codes and regulations, contracting policies, safety regulations and corporate and board policies. li>
  • Proven contract administration and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize a complex series of project components for large complex projects to meet multiple time based deliverables requiring a high level of detail and accuracy. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including letter, report writing and presentation skills. Skill in dealing openly, tactfully and sensitively in a variety of situations including dealings with the public, member municipalities, government agencies and contractors. Proven ability to take initiative, work with minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines. Ability to mentor and foster the development junior engineer, technical staff and direct reports as required.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Project.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license.

Candidates with lesser experience may be considered at the Project Engineer level, along with the applicable rate of pay.
