The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health is a child and youth mental health center integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). The Centre is establishing a revitalized academic community mental health center that provides high-quality care, combined with excellence in teaching and community-based research. GH CCMH located across two sites in Toronto offers both in-person and virtual care to clients and their families, from prevention and early intervention through assessment, counselling, therapy, and intensive services.

We are currently seeking applicants to fill a full-time position of Child and Youth Care Practitioner that will support the children, youth, and families of the Intensive Services for Youth – Community program. The successful candidate will provide direct mental health assessment, treatment, crisis intervention, and case management services to clients within the context of the family, school, home, and community setting. The successful candidate would be required to work in-person at our Jarvis site, with dedicated time in the community.Provides in-person clinical interventions and services for assigned children, youth, and their families maintaining caseloads and supporting clients.Participates in the development and implementation of individual treatment plans for clients, assessing behaviours and responding to clients’ needs.Provides in-person support within the day treatment program and in community settings such as the family home, school, and transitional supports.Supports clients by facilitating social skills/therapeutic activities and organizing/attending events.Makes decisions related to day-to-day treatment issues and ongoing intervention techniques.

Other:

Supervision of CYC students, if required.Complies with the organization’s vision, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications:

Post-secondary Diploma in Child and Youth Care and a minimum of three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience working in the community is strongly preferred.Demonstrated ability to work with at-risk children, youth & families, community partners, and organizations.Understanding and analysis of issues of marginalization and oppression are necessary to work in this role.Member with the Ontario Child and Youth Care Association or equivalent association/accrediting organization.First Aid/CPR, and TCI required.Good knowledge of MS Office Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as ability to use office equipment efficiently (telephone, scanner, photocopier, and fax).Ability to engage in physical activities related to sports, board games, play-based activities, etc., and TCI training.Ability to work flexible hours including regular evenings and weekends (if needed).Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
