We partner with select brokers to deliver tailored business insurance solutions across Canada. The Opportunity We are looking for an Underwriting Assistant to join our team. You will provide operations and underwriting support to property, casualty and professional & financial lines underwriters. This role offers potential for growth into an underwriting role over time, as the business and team grow. What You’ll Be Doing Provide administrative support to underwriters across TMCan’s underwriting units. Maintain records of broker correspondence and set up client files. Triage new business submissions and prepare them for underwriting reviews. Manage assigned small renewals. Data entry into policy administration system. Prepare insurance policies for issuance. Process simple policy transactions and issue insurance certificates under the supervision of an underwriter. Assist underwriters in populating underwriting tools and performing risk analysis. Provide input on necessary improvements to underwriting tools to ensure efficient handling of the business. Document assigned files ensuring completeness, compliance, and quality to meet documented electronic file standards. Ad hoc projects for assigned Line of Business. Perform general clerical duties such as handling phone calls, payments/invoices, setting up files, copying, filing, scanning. Assist with broader company tasks as needed. Who You Are You are a team player with a positive attitude who thrives in a consensus culture with an emphasis on collaboration. You are a self‑starter excited to jump in and can come up to speed quickly. You are comfortable working on a lean team and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the work that needs to be done. You Bring A university degree or college diploma and 1+ years of relevant experience; experience in professional and financial lines insurance preferred. Takes initiative, is self‑motivated with a can‑do attitude. A proven ability to multi‑task and manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines and driving results. Ability to thrive in a changing environment and be comfortable with ambiguity. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook), especially Excel. Attention to detail is a must. Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) required; fluency in French preferred, but not required.
