h3>Research and Policy Director – Permanent, Full-Time – Halifax

The Nova Scotia NDP Caucus is seeking a full-time Research and Policy Director to join our team. The Research and Policy Director will work directly with the NDP Members of the Legislative Assembly and Leader to propose and promote progressive ideas and policies through legislative proposals, legislative committee support, public outreach, stakeholder consultations, and other means.

This position is a permanent, unionized, full-time position with a variable schedule.

Job Responsibilities & Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will have strong writing and editing skills. They must also be comfortable managing several competing priorities and tasks in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment. p>

Job Responsibilities

  1. Researching and analyzing emerging current affairs, including identification of new issues for the attention of NDP MLAs and staff, within an assigned set of research areas.
  2. Writing clear and concise briefing notes for Caucus members on important issues.
  3. Analyzing legislation, government programs, economic data, public policy issues, reports, and other relevant materials.
  4. Providing background for news releases, direct mail, correspondence, speeches, and other communications materials.
  5. Coordinating the work of other Research and Policy staff.

Qualifications:

  1. A Master’s degree in a relevant field, a law degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Excellent writing and editing skills.
  3. Excellent interpersonal communication, computer and organizational skills.
  4. Familiarity with the New Democratic Party, its policies and structure.
  5. Knowledge of government processes and current issues is an asset.
  6. Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
