Laboratory Manager

Overview Join to apply for the Laboratory Manager - Organics role at Bureau Veritas North America. This is a Full-Time position with Medical Benefits and Retirement Savings Plan. Responsibilities Maximize human, equipment and financial resources and ensure that they are used appropriately. Suggest new processes and procedures that will increase Bureau Veritas’ market share, profile and profitability. Facilitate the production of high quality defensible data, safely and on time. Ensure methods in use meet current and proposed regulatory guidelines. Organize and direct staff to maintain a good working environment and ensure continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency. Key Accountability / Responsibilities Lead and develop staff, including recruitment, setting objectives, evaluating performance and coaching, and supporting career development. Coordinate requests or recommend resource planning (staff or equipment). Monitor lab supplies and equipment. Develop strategic plans to prepare the department for continued growth. Assess feasibility of Kaizen projects. Develop relationships with peers in other internal departments and customers. Develop business plans to increase Bureau Veritas’ regional profile. Review and verify the validity of analytical results. Maintain a positive work environment for employees. Act as technical resource for Manager, Customer Service and staff. Monitor turn-around time to meet deadlines and customer expectations; prioritize as needed. Recommend capital expenditures within the department. Provide input during budgeting process. Maintain and optimize analytical instruments; troubleshoot and repair as needed; propose process improvements. Establish production schedules maximizing staff and equipment utilization, including evening and weekends. Ensure employees follow SOPs and work to reduce non-conformances. Support and comply with Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety programs. Provide guidance on health and safety; enforce EHS policy and safety regulations. Conduct safety tailgate meetings, PPE audits, and participate in monthly site inspections. Ensure hazard assessments and task analyses are performed; monitor safety performance. Participate in internal and external audits as requested. Maintain training records and relevant qualifications. All other responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education and Experience: B.Sc., technical diploma or equivalent experience Demonstrated success in the role of Laboratory Supervisor 7 - 8 years of experience in a laboratory environment, with at least two years in a leadership role Up-to-date knowledge of laboratory processes and automation Thorough understanding of Bureau Veritas’ Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Leadership Skills: Proven ability to mentor, coach, and train junior staff Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels Dynamic, energetic, motivated, with a positive, can-do attitude Ability to deal with different situations and personalities Good interpersonal skills; ability to build teams Problem assessment and solution recommendation Judgement, training and assistance in resolving employee relations issues Time management, multi-tasking and priority setting Adaptability to a fast-paced environment Computer Skills: Above-average experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and LIMS (MAXXLIMS) Attributes: Accurately follows SOPs and work instructions Excellent knowledge of laboratory processes and automation Experience in developing and managing process flow and logistics within a laboratory environment Excellent written and verbal communication Flexible and collaborative, with the ability to travel independently Works well under pressure to meet deadlines; strong time-management and prioritization Learns quickly and adapts to changing environments About Bureau Veritas Bureau Veritas is a world leader in testing, inspection and certification services.
